Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

During the interview process the resident (Resident 1) and the administrator were interviewed. In addition, documents were obtained and included the Physician’s Report, Medications Log, Identification Information and Residence Care Agreement. During the investigation, it was reported that the resident did have two Sharps Containers in his room. One of the containers was being used by the resident and the second container was on a shelf in the resident’s room. The administrator reported that she was not aware of the second container on the shelf; however, knew of the first container. The containers were full of syringes and needles that were in need of disposal. On 01/31/23 Rebecca Knight, LPA took pictures of the two containers filled with syringes and needles. The photo was verified by Donna Gurriere, LPA. The administrator advised that all Sharps Containers are now housed in the facility’s medication room and are not housed in the resident rooms. The administrator reported that she will take all full Sharps Containers to the collection center for proper disposal. Based on investigation observations and interviews which were conducted and record review(s), the preponderance of evidence standard has been met, therefore the above allegation is found to be Substantiated . California Code of Regulations, (Title 22), is being cited on the attached LIC 9099D.
