Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

Later that same day, interviews with residents beginning at 10:15 a.m. revealed that they have not had a problem with the air vents. Interviews with residents added there are times it get a bit hot or a little cold that another blanket or removal of blanket makes up for it. Lastly, interviews with residents also revealed that they can request at the front desk to have the air colder or heated as the facility only has central air for all rooms. Starting at 10:15 a.m., LPA Ascencio took room temperature measurements of Rooms #1, #2, #3, #4, and #5 revealing that resident rooms were at a range from 73.4 - 77.7 degree F. The California Code of Regulations Title 22 Section 87303 Maintenance and Operations (b)(1) indicates that: "The facility shall heat rooms that residents occupy to a minimum of 68 degree F, (20 degrees C)" while section (b)(2) indicates that; "The facility shall cool rooms to a comfortable range, between 78 degrees F (26 degrees C) and 85 degrees F (30 degrees C), or in areas of extreme heat to 30 degrees F less than the outside temperature." Although interview with R1 indicated that there was a heating and cooling problem in their room, observations and further interview with R1 indicated that the facility placed an air blocker to prevent air from coming into the room. Additionally, interviews with various resident revealed residents rooms are at a comfortable temperature range to their liking, while temperature room measurements confirmed comfortable ranges that are within regulations. Thus, based on the evidence gathered, the allegation of Facility failed to maintain a comfortable temperature is deemed unsubstantiated at this time. Exit interview conducted and a copy of the report was provided to staff, who was authorized to sign the documents.
