What the inspector wrote

On 12/4/2024 at 12:15PM Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jaleesa Jackson met with Director Robyn Zapien for an Unannounced Annual/Random Inspection. Present for this inspection were 58 preschool aged children along with 9 fingerprint cleared staff members. Facility operating hours are 7:00AM - 6:00PM Monday to Friday. The facility was toured to conduct a health and safety inspection. The facility holds a school aged license as well # 13418185. The facility operates out of 4 classrooms. All classrooms had age appropriate equipment and toys. The classrooms are clean with heating and ventilation for safety and comfort. During today's inspection all hazardous materials and toxins including disinfectants and cleaning solutions were observed to be made inaccessible to children. Each classroom had individualized storage space for each child that they are able to store their personal belongings. Director stated blankets and sheets are also cleaned weekly by facility staff with the on site laundry room. The facility has water stations throughout the premises for drinking water. The children bring their own water bottles from home. All outdoor play equipment was observed to be operable and age-appropriate during this inspection. Areas around slides and high climbing structures are cushioned to absorb falls. There are plenty of trees and structures to provide shade. There were also several sheds that are used for toy storage that are locked. Director stated the menu is updated weekly. The facility provides lunch and snacks in the morning and afternoons. LPA also toured the kitchen and storage area that is OFF limits to children. LPA also reviewed children's medications are also stored in the kitchen area, which has proper documentation and are in original unexpired containers. Continued 809-C LPA reviewed 5 children files and 10 staff files. All staff have completed Mandated Reporter training. There is at least one staff member present on site that has pediatric CPR and First Aid. The facility has fire extinguishers, working smoke detectors, working carbon monoxide detectors throughout the facility. Disaster drills are conducted at least once every six months. The last drill was conducted on 9/13/2024. All required forms are posted in public view. There were no deficiencies cited on today's visit. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. For child care center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 ( PIN 21-21.1- CCP ).
