What the inspector wrote

On June 4, 2025, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Simerjit Kaur arrived to conduct UNANNOUNCED RANDOM SITE INSPECTION for Title 5 school age program and met with Director Jessica Farrish. Present during the inspection are 39 school age children and 6 fingerprint cleared staff members. The facility was toured for a health and safety inspection. The center is located adjunct to Sunset Elementary School. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 1:00 pm 6:00 pm. During summer breaks, Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. The center consists of Room A, Room B, Room 36, office, Multipurpose , combined bathroom for boys and girls, play ground, and staff bathroom. The facility has adequate heating and lighting. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, poisons and other items that are dangerous to children were inaccessible during the inspection today. The center is equipped with a First Aid Kit, working telephone, carbon monoxide detector, pull down fire alarm and fire extinguishers. The alarm system is regulated by Sunset Elementary School. There is drinking water readily available to children indoors and outdoors. The floors were free of tripping hazards during today's inspection. The storage containers for solid waste have tight-fitting covers. The classrooms are equipped with age appropriate tables and chairs. There is adequate storage for children's belongings. There are school materials and art supplies stored in the storage cabinets. The facility utilize the outdoor playground with Sunset Elementary School. The facility also utilizes the grass area and will provide 100% supervision during outdoor play time. There is cushioning underneath the anchored play structure. Continued on LIC809C The center is in compliance with the sign in and out procedure. Children and staff records were reviewed. All required documents are posted for public review. LPA reviewed and obtained facility roster. The director also has conducted and documented fire/disaster drill training on 4/1/2025. The center provides am/pm snacks. The menus are posted for review. Per director, there are currently no children on any medication. Sign-in and sign-out logs were reviewed to verify census and signatures. LPA reviewed staff file and children files. There are no bodies of water accessible to children. Per director, there are no firearms on the premises. Director was encouraged to frequently visit our website at www.ccld.ca.gov for licensing regulations and updates, and to also email childcareadvocatesprogram@dss.ca.gov to be included in the Child Care Quarterly Updates distribution list. Director was reminded that EMSA approved Pediatric CPR & First Aid training must be completed every two (2) years. Mandated Reporter Training ("Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting https://mandatedreporterca.com/ . Personnel and facility roster must be properly maintained, and fire/disaster drills must be conducted at least every six (6) months and documented. Licensee was reminded that California law requires facilities to report unusual incidents and/or injuries to children in care, to the child's parents, and to the Department within 24 hours by phone, fax, or email. Within seven (7) days from the incident, facilities must submit the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624) to the Department. LPA informed Director that all forms can be downloaded at www.ccld.ca.gov . Facility director was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Continue 809C LPA referred facility representative to the Department website for lead: Lead Toxicity Prevention and Water Testing information. Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. For child care center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 (PIN 21-21.1- CCP). LPA verified that the lead testing was completed in accordance to the Written Directives outlined in PIN 21-21.1-CCP. This facility provides Incidental Medical Services \342\200\223 IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children\342\200\231s, personnel, and administrative records.
