What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst Diana Campos met with Licensee Lorena Torres for an unannounced Required 1 year inspection. Present for this inspection was licensee, 2 assistants and 9 children in care consisting of 5 preschool and 4 school age children. Licensee was in compliance with the licensed capacity and facility ratios. Phone number is current. Hours: 07:00 am - 5:30 pm. The day care area of the home was inspected. Off-limit areas will be made inaccessible to children by closed and/or locked doors; gates: and visual supervision. All required forms are posted and visible for public review. There was a working smoke detector; a fully charged 3-A:40-B:C fire extinguisher; a first aid kit, and a carbon monoxide detector. The home has adequate heating and ventilation. There were safe, healthful and comfortable accommodations, furnishings and equipment available to children at the time of this inspection. There were a variety of books and toys for children's use. There are no hazardous materials, medicines, or cleaning solutions accessible to children during this inspection. Hazardous items are kept in a high cabinet, inaccessible to children. Licensee stated there were no firearms or bodies of water on the premises. Back yard area is securely fenced. Licensee has riding toys, a slide, playhouse, scooters and other toys for outdoor child play. Children's files were reviewed and found to be complete. Facility roster was obtained. All staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse index clearances or exemptions. A qualified assistant must be physically present whenever 9 or more children are in care. When an assistant is not present, the home reverts back to small family child care ratios. New Regulations were discussed. Licensee was reminded of the New Regulations regarding Adult Immunizations and Mandated Reporter Training. Immunization records were not in file. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Family Child Care Homes Section 102417. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
