Inspector’s narrative
What the inspector wrote
On June 4, 2025, at 1:05pm, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Randy Miranda and Brindha Govindasamy arrived unannounced for an annual inspection for compliance to Health and Safety, and case management for increase in capacity. Present for the inspection was the Summer Site Director Linda Santos, 10 staff members, and 34 school age children. Adventure Time Maloney currently operates during the regular school year from Monday-Friday 7:00AM-8:30AM and 11:30AM - 6PM. Summer Break hours are Monday\342\200\223Friday, 7am \342\200\223 6pm.
Adventure Time Maloney operates in a single-story portable classroom on the Maloney Elementary School campus.
A fire clearance has been granted for 115 children on 5/13/2025. Measurement for portable room accommodates 35 children. Since this School Age Program operates on a functioning school site, pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 1596.806 the Program is exempt from requirements for square-footage of indoor and outdoor activity space, toilet, fencing, and isolation space for child day care centers, pursuant to Health and Safety Code Section 1596.806.
Outdoor activities take place on the playground and large blacktop area, both of which are in safe condition and free from sharp, loose, or pointed parts. The areas around and beneath high-climbing equipment are covered with appropriate cushioned material to absorb falls. Shade is provided by building eaves and trees in the play areas, with teachers ensuring continuous supervision.
Sign-in/out sheets were reviewed, confirming that all signed-in children were present. Classrooms contain trash cans with tightly fitting lids for solid waste disposal. The campus has separate boys' and girls' restrooms, each equipped with functioning sinks and sufficient towel and soap supplies. All toilets and handwashing stations are maintained in a safe and sanitary condition. During Summer Break hours, staff restrooms are locked, therefore staff will utilize children\342\200\231s restroom and ensure children are not present during adult usage. Fresh drinking water is readily available through a water fountain, a water cooler inside the portable classroom, and children\342\200\231s individual water bottles.
The facility has two fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguishers mounted near the left- and right-side entrances. The most recent fire system inspection, conducted by Fremont Alarm, took place on 5/12/2025. The carbon monoxide detector was tested and confirmed fully functional. Disaster drills are conducted at least once every six months, with the last fire drill held on 5/27/2025 and the most recent earthquake drill on 3/4/2025. Heating and ventilation in the classroom are adequate, and all required documents are properly posted on the walls. The facility is clean, well-organized, and furnished with ample age-appropriate equipment. All surfaces, including floors and countertops, are free of toxins. Hazardous items and chemicals are securely stored in a locked cabinet. No bodies of water are accessible to children in care.
The center provides snacks, while children bring their own lunches from home. Dry goods and canned foods were inspected, and all items were within their expiration dates.
Children\342\200\231s and staff files were reviewed and found to be complete and well-organized. All individuals required to undergo criminal background checks have been cleared.
Site Director was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. For childcare center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 (PIN 21-21.1-CCP). This facility operates out of a portable classroom that does not have any water lines to the building. Children bring their own water bottles, and the school also provides bottled water to children.
Lead testing is complete and documented.
Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department.
