What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jyoti Saini met with Director Susan Neiberger and Assistant Director Caitlin Cosgrove for an unannounced Annual Random Inspection. LPA disclosed the purpose of the inspection and was granted entry into the facility. In addition to the director, 34 children, and six (6) staff members are present today. The facility operates in Room #1(AKS Kindergarten Prep ), Room #2 (AKS Preschool), Room #3 ( AKS Early Preschool #2), and Room #4 ( AKS early Preschool #1) Monday - Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. The facility was inspected indoors and outdoors today for health and safety hazards, and the following was observed. The facility has a working smoke and carbon monoxide detector, a fully charged fire extinguisher, and a working telephone available. No bodies of water, firearms, or weapons are on the premises. All furniture is in good repair. The Center has age-appropriate toys and equipment. A first aid kit and a first aid backpack are available. Each child has a separate storage cubby labeled with their name. Each classroom has a cot in good condition. Per director, the blankets and sheets are laundered by the parents weekly. There are separate bathrooms for staff and children. The Center provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks. LPA reviewed food storage and observed that all food is in its original packaging or labeled with an expiration date. The menus are posted in each classroom.Medications are stored in the classrooms along with the emergency backpack, and some medicines are stored in the office.The last Emergency Drill was conducted on 01/26/2024 and is properly logged. The facility uses the My Bright Day app to sign the children in and out. The Center has a complete record of sign-in/out sheets by an authorized pick-up person. The outdoor play area is fenced for supervision. The play structure is age-appropriate and in good condition, with sufficient cushioning underneath. The children bring their water bottles, and the facility refills them using a Brita jug. The center roster was reviewed, and a copy was obtained. A review of eight (8) children's and eight (8) staff files was completed. All children have a record of emergency identification information and immunization records on file. All staff has a criminal record clearance on file. The opening and closing staff have a current Pediatric First Aid/CPR certificate on file. All the staff have current Mandated Reporter training on the file. see next page.. During inspection, Criminal Record Clearance - Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Lead Testing – CCC COMPLETED TESTING AND NO LEAD EXCEEDANCES: Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. LPA verified that the lead testing was completed in accordance to the Written Directives outlined in PIN 21-21.1-CCP . Incidental Medical Services (IMS) This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of “medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP .
