Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

On June 11, 2025, at 11:54am Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Randy Miranda arrived to conduct an unannounced annual inspection for health and safety. LPA met with Director Helen Glendinning and toured all areas licensed for use by children in care. Present for the inspection was the director and 7 children in care (one 5.5-years-old; one 5- years-old; two 4.5-years-old, one 4-years-old, and two 2-years-old). The facility is within ratio. The hours of operation are Monday \342\200\223 Friday 7am to 5:30pm. Director informed LPA that she is retiring and final day for the facility is on 6/27/2025. A new licensee will be taking over the facility and retaining at least 2-3 children. A notification of retirement was sent out to parents on 6/2/2025. The facility is clean and well-organized, with age-appropriate furnishings and equipment in good repair. Surfaces, including floors and countertops, are clean and free of toxins. There is a sufficient supply of age-appropriate toys, all of which appear to be safe and in good condition. No bodies of water are accessible to children in care, and no hazardous items or toxins were observed as accessible to children in care. No firearms or weapons are kept on the premises. All required documents for public posting were present. Uncontaminated drinking water is available, and lead testing has been completed. The facility is equipped with a fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher, located near the entrance to the outdoor play area. The carbon monoxide detector was tested and is functioning properly. However, disaster drill logs were not available. The outdoor playground area is enclosed by an approximately 4-foot fence. All play equipment is in safe condition, free from sharp, loose, or pointed parts. Play structures are situated both within and outside a large gravel box. Ample shade is available, and supervision is consistently maintained. Children bring their own bottled water from home, which is made accessible to them. The facility has separate bathrooms designated for staff and children. Toilets and faucets are in safe, sanitary operating condition, and the sinks and toilets are within reach of the children. Necessary supplies are readily available. The sign-in/out sheets were reviewed, and all children present were properly signed in. Children provide their own lunches and snacks. Although the facility has a kitchen, it is off-limits and only used as a pass-through to access the bathrooms. Cleaning chemicals and other cleaners are stored securely out of children's reach. Children's records were reviewed and were found to be in good order. LPA requested and reviewed the facility roster and obtained a photocopy.
