Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jyoti Saini met with Licensee Lisa Hendricks for an unannounced annual random inspection. No children were present during the visit. The home is a single-story residence with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining room, garage, and backyard. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The facility carries liability insurance through DCI Insurance. On-limit areas include the living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway bathroom, and all three bedrooms, which are used exclusively for nap time. Off-limit areas are the master bathroom and the garage. LPA inspected the home for health and safety hazards. The daycare area is equipped with ample age-appropriate toys. The home has a working telephone, functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and a fire extinguisher that meets minimum requirements. There are child-sized tables and chairs available for snacks and activities. The licensee confirmed that there are no firearms or weapons of any kind on the premises. During today's inspection, LPA did not observe any bodies of water. There are three pets at the facility: one bearded dragon housed in a locked terrarium, one guinea pig housed in a locked cage, and one cat. Monkey bars in the backyard are fenced off with plastic gardening fencing and per licensee, monkey bars are not used by daycare children. A swing set in the backyard is properly anchored and has rubber mulch beneath it to cushion falls. Per licensee, the swing set is designated only for school-age children. The fireplace in the day care area is barricaded with toy shelve. The licensee's CPR certification is current and expires on April 27, 2026. The licensee provides daily breakfast, snacks, and meals. LPA reviewed the children's files, all of which are complete and up to date. All required postings are properly displayed. LPA discussed safe sleep guidelines, and the licensee acknowledged understanding of the safe sleep guidelines. During Inspection, Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Licensee was reminded about Mandated Reporter training available on CCLD website. Training must be completed every 2 years. Training can be taken online at www.mandatedreporterca.com To improve the quality and value of the new inspection process, a survey will be sent to the email address provided. Please complete the survey and share your inspection experience. If you have any questions regarding the process or tools, please send them by email to inspectionprocess@dss.ca.gov .
