What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jyoti Saini met with Director Sarah DeSousa for an unannounced Annual Random Inspection. LPA disclosed the purpose of the inspection and was granted entry into the facility by the Assistant Director. Present during the inspection were the Director, Assistant Director, 14 school-age children, and two staff members. The facility operates in Room #4 (Ravens) and Room #6 (Wise Owls), Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. School-age children arrive between 1:45 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. The facility was inspected both indoors and outdoors for health and safety hazards, and the following was observed: The facility has a working smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector, a fully charged fire extinguisher, and a working telephone. LPA did not observe any bodies of water. Per the Director, there are no firearms on the premises. The center is in good condition, maintains proper temperature and ventilation, and is free of hazards. All furniture was observed to be in good repair. Classroom has the monthly menu posted. The facility provides snacks. LPA reviewed food storage and observed that all food was in its original packaging or labeled with an expiration or open date. All required postings are posted. The outdoor play area was free of hazards. The facility utilizes the ProCare app for children’s sign-in and sign-out. Children’s bathrooms appeared neat and clean. Children’s and staff records reviewed were complete. All staff have a criminal record clearance on file. The Director has a current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certificate on file and confirmed during the inspection that she remains on site until the program closes. The facility roster was reviewed, and a copy was obtained. see next page.. Criminal Record Clearance - Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Lead Testing – CCC COMPLETED TESTING Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. LPA verified that the lead testing was completed in accordance to the Written Directives outlined in PIN 21-21.1-CCP .
