What the inspector wrote

On 05/07/24 Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Brindha Govindasamy and Diana Campos conducted an unannounced Annual inspection at Iris Deserio's Family Childcare Home. LPA's met with Iris and explained the purpose of today's inspection. LPA's were granted the inspection authority to enter the Home. The family childcare home days and hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Present in the home at time of inspection were licensee, licensee's finger printed spouse, one assistant and nine children in care. Indoor Space: A health and safety tour of inside the home was done. LPA's toured the premises with licensee. The home is sanitized and orderly in compliance with Title 22 Regulations at this time. There is a 2A10BC fire extinguisher, a dual smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector in the home. The fireplace in the living room is blocked to prevent access by children in care. There are 3 floor heater vents and licensee stated they do not become hot to the touch. IN-USE Art Room, Middle Circle classroom, Dollhouse, 2 toilet rooms, back deck and Backyard. Medicines, cleaning products, sharp objects are stored inaccessible to children during today's inspection. LPA reminded licensee that smoking, baby walkers, bouncers, jumpers and similar items are not allowed in family childcare homes. Licensee states that there are no pets and arms and ammunition stored in the home. The home maintains a working telephone. OFF LIMIT Areas : Kitchen, Entire 2nd Floor, Left side yard . Outdoor Space: LPA toured the outdoor area (backyard) and observed it was fenced . Licensee stated that child care is mostly conducted in the play yard and back deck. LPA's observed there are no pools, hot tubs or other bodies of water. Play structure are anchored and is in good condition. Continue to Page 2 Page 2 Children files and Facility files were reviewed. Facility contained Children's Roster, Licensee’s mandated reporter training(expires: 9/28/25), pediatric CPR and first aid certificate (expires 8/2024), immunization against pertussis, measles and influenza vaccination verification on file. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. LPA reminded the licensee that smoking, baby walkers, bouncers, jumpers and similar items are not allowed in family childcare homes. LPA provided the main office number for the Oakland Regional Child Care office (510) 622-2602 for the licensees to call and report injuries or unusual incidents and reviewed the form to follow up in writing within 7 days of the injury/unusual incident. The licensee were encouraged to periodically review regulations, guidelines and Provider Information Notices (PINs) on the website www.ccld.ca.gov . Continue to Page 3. Page 3 This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. Licensee Iris Deserio was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. During the exit interview, licensee, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility. LPA reminded the licensee that the mandated reporter training is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years at www.mandatedreporterca.com . There were no deficiencies cited during today's visit. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Appeal rights provided and discussed. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with licensee Iris Deserio.
