What the inspector wrote

On 7/19/23 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Monica Mathur conducted an unannounced Required Inspection at Laura Nunes's Family Child Care Home. LPA met with Licensee, Laura and explained the purpose of today’s inspection. Present in the home were Licensee and her spouse. There were no day care children present. Licensee stated she cares for school age children only but she is not caring for children today. Licensee has 3 helpers under 18 years old who come on different days. Days/hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 7am-4:30pm. Adults present in the home have Criminal Background Check Clearances. INDOOR space was inspected. It is a two story home. IN USE AREAS : 1st floor - Living, Dining, Family room, Playroom, Kitchen, Bathroom OFF LIMIT AREAS : attached Garage, Entire 2nd floor (4 bedrooms, 2 baths) LPA observed sufficient materials and play equipment. All detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, and other similar items were inaccessible to children. Furniture and equipment were age appropriate and in good condition. The home is sanitary, orderly and safe. There is a screened fireplace in the home. LPA observed a fully charged fire extinguisher that meets State Fire Marshal standards and working smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. There are 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 bunny as pets in the home. LPA reviewed a current Children Roster, Emergency Disaster Plan LIC610A. Last fire/disaster drill was completed in March 2023. All required postings were observed posted near the entrance. Licensee states she walks children to their elementary school for picks ups and drop offs. OUTDOOR backyard space was inspected. Play equipment was observed in safe condition and free of hazards. Heavy structure was secured to the ground. The yard was fenced and there were no bodies of water observed. Left Side yard is off limits. FILE REVIEW: Licensee’s Mandated Reporter Training and certifications for CPR/First Aid are current (CPR expires 3/2025). Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. Supervision of children was discussed, and Licensee understands that she must be present in the home during 80% of the operating hours and ensure children are supervised at all times. If no assistant provider is present at a Large Family Child Care Home, then the licensee shall comply with the capacity requirements for a Small Family Child Care Home. Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD) regularly sends information to licensed facilities, providers, and stakeholders by way of Provider Information Notices (PIN), Program Quarterly Update Newsletters and other important information communication platforms. To receive important licensed related information to licensed facilities, visit the CCLD Important Information website at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/community-carelicensing/subscribe and select the Child Care option to receive email communication. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. California Attorney General - Megan’s Law website was searched for information on sex offenders required to register with local law enforcement under California's Megan's Law. No registered sex offenders were found at the facility addresses. Under state law, some registered sex offenders are not subject to public disclosure; therefore, they may not have been included in this search. However, the Department conducts a monthly cross reference of each address on record for all registered sex offenders against all CCLD facility addresses pursuant to information shared by California DOJ. To improve the quality and value of the new inspection process, a survey will be sent to the email address provided. Please complete the survey and share your inspection experience. In the areas that were evaluated, no regulatory violations were observed . Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Licensee, Laura Nunes. During the exit interview, Licensee, Laura confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS. A NOTICE OF SITE VISIT WAS GIVEN AND MUST REMAIN POSTED FOR 30 DAYS
