What the inspector wrote

On 4/10/23, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Melissa Domantay met with Director/Licensee Wednesday Chaviz for a Required 1 Year inspection. This program is the preschool component of a combination center with a school age program also operating at this facility. The facility preschool center and playground were toured to conduct a Health and Safety Inspection. Present upon arrival was 1 staff. There were 5 preschool children present during today's inspection. All adults present today are fingerprint cleared and associated. The center operates Monday through Friday from 6:15am to 6:15pm. LPA toured the premises with Director Wednesday. The preschool program operates out of rooms 4, 5, 5a, and 12. Room 12 is shared with the school age program on an alternating schedule to ensure preschool and school age children do not commingle. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, and other items that are dangerous to the health and safety of children were stored in places inaccessible to them. Furniture and equipment were age appropriate and in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. There are 5 toilets, 1 urinal and 6 sinks available for preschool children's use. Restrooms for children were observed to be in safe, sanitary, and functioning condition. Floors were clean and free from tripping hazard. Food storage area were clean, free of litter, rubbish, and rodents/vermin. Trash cans for solid waste had tight-fitting covers and were in good repair. LPA observed a fully charged Fire extinguisher and Carbon Monoxide Detector. The last Fire Drill was conducted on 3/2023. Director is reminded that fire drills should be conducted at least every 6 months. The center is equipped with a fully stocked first aid Kit and working telephone. Facility does provide transportation for preschool children and WCCSD provides transportation for preschool, school age, and special needs children, Director understands that children cannot be left alone, unattended in parked vehicles. Outdoor playgrounds were inspected and observed to be fenced and safe. The play equipment was maintained in good condition and free of hazards. Areas around the outdoor play yard are cushioned with material that absorbs falls. Shade is provided by way of covered areas. There were no bodies of water observed during today's inspection. Facility\342\200\231s License, Parents\342\200\231 Rights Poster PUB 393, Personal Rights, and Activity Schedules were observed to be posted. The staff bathroom will be used for the isolation of sick children. See 809-C for continuance. The facility serves breakfast, lunch, 2 snacks, and evening meal which are all catered by West Contra Costa County Unified School District and there is a menu posted. Drinking water is arranged to be readily available to children during indoor and outdoor activities. Children utilize personal reusable water bottles. Children sign in and out procedures and logs were reviewed. Facility uses electronic sign in/sign out procedure. LPA reminded facility to maintain sign in/sign out procedures and make sure parents/authorized representatives sign the child in and out. (3) Children's files and (2) Staff files were reviewed and contained required documents. At least 1 staff has a valid CPR/First Aid Certificate, which expires on 3/2024 who is present at facility. Children's Roster and staff personnel report was reviewed. A copy of staff personnel report and children's roster were provided to LPA by Director. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. On or before March 30, 2018 any person who works in a child care facility shall complete Mandated Reporter training and renew the training every 2 years.
