Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Paul Petersen conducted an unannounced annual site inspection for this facility at 1030 AM. LPA met with facility director, Wednesday Chavis, and toured all areas utilized for childcare for a health and safety inspection. This program is the school age component of a combination facility with a preschool also located at this facility. Present at the school age program at the time of LPA's arrival were eight school age children in care and two teaching staff including one qualified teacher and one aid. One additional school age child arrived while LPA was still present. The facility is within ratio and capacity and children are being supervised. All adults present are background cleared and associated to this facility. This school age care program operates out classrooms 1, 2, 3, 6, 10, 10a, 10b, 10c, 11, 11a, and 12. Classroom 12 is shared with the preschool program on a rotating basis to ensure preschool children and school age children do not commingle. Per facility director, the most recent inspection by the fire department was in 2020. The facility has a centralized smoke detector/fire alarm system. The carbon monoxide detector was tested by LPA and is operating. Hazardous items/cleaning supplies are stored inaccessible to children in care. The facility uses an electronic sign-in sign-out program with paper backup available. Furnishings and equipment are age appropriate and free of broken/sharp pieces. Surfaces including floors, counter tops and desk tops are free of toxins. There are two bathrooms designated for school age children use only. Toilets are present which allow for individual privacy. Toilets and faucets are age appropriate and in working condition. Per facility director, there are no firearms present or stored on the premises. The facility serves breakfast, lunch and snack which are all catered by West Contra Costa County Unified School District and there is a menu posted. There are working water fountains indoors as well as individual water bottles which are used indoors and outdoors for children's drinking waters.
