Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Diana Campos met with Director Carmela Asuncion-Santos for the purpose of a complaint investigation regarding the above allegation. Present during this investigation were 9 staff and 48 children in care. During the course of the investigation interviews were conducted and records reviewed. Interviews revealed that the center conducts temperature checks upon arrival as well as screening for any signs of illness. If a child displays any symptoms or has a temperature over 100 degrees they are not allowed to stay. Interviews also revealed that when a child displays symptoms during the course of the day regardless of temperature parent is immediately notified to pick up child and decision of calling parent to pick up child is determined by the director regardless of the reported concern by the teacher. Staff interviews revealed contradicting statements regarding Administrator's response to illness concerns. Based on the investigative findings, there was not enough evidence to determine whether or not the administrator allows sick children to be at school. Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation(s) did or did not occur. Therefore, the allegation is unsubstantiated. Notice of Site Visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted with Director.
