What the inspector wrote

On 12/17/2025 at 2:25 PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Christina Watts conducted an Case Management Inspection at YMCA Childcare - Strandwood. This facility is located on Strandwood Elementary School. LPA met with Site Director, Amanda Valadez and explained the purpose of today's inspection. During today's inspection, there were 79 school age children with 14 staff in four classrooms. Director stated there are 125 school age children enrolled. LPA is following up on an self reported Unusual Incident Report submitted to licensing on 10/20/2025. LPA toured the facility, observed classrooms, reviewed files, conducted interviews and obtained relevant documents. LPA has determined per staff interviews, in the morning of 10/20/2025, staff asked C1 if they needed to use the restroom and C1 said yes. Interviews stated that C1 went to the restroom. Per interviews, staff got children ready to walk to school and left the portable. Interviews stated that staff came back from walking children to their classroom, staff observed C1 near the ramp entrance of the facility with a parent. Interviews stated C1 was crying and upset as they were left alone. Interviews stated 3 staff members took C1 to class. and had to help C1 calm down. Interviews stated C1 was left alone for about 2-5 minutes. Per California code of regulations, Title 22 stated children are to be supervised by staff at all times. The facility is out if compliance with California code of Regulations, Title 22. LPA Christina Watts informed Site Director, Amanda Valadez that this report dated 12/17/2025 with 1 Type A citation which shall be posted for 30 consecutive days as there is immediate risk to the health, safety, or personal rights of children in care. *CON'T ON PAGE 2* *PAGE 2* Furthermore, LPA Watts informed the Site Director to provide a copy of this licensing report dated 12/17/2025 that documents any Type A citation(s) to parents/guardians of all children currently enrolled by the next business day or the next day the children are in care, and to any newly enrolled parents/guardians for 12 months from the date of this report. A signed Acknowledgement of Receipt of Licensing Report (LIC 9224), or other written statement, must be placed in the child's file for verification. *SEE LIC 809-D FOR DEFICIENCIES* Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Site Director, Amanda Valadez. A Notice of Site Visit was given and must remain posted for 30 consecutive days.
