On 5/15/23, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Melissa Domantay conducted a case management inspection at this facility. LPA met with Director Julie Mendenhall. There were 5 children and 2 staff present during today's inspection. An application was received with a request to add a room to the license, Room P-1. The facility will operate Monday-Friday 7:00am-6:00pm on the grounds of the Valhalla Elementary School. A tour of the Room #P-1 was conducted for a health and safety inspection with Director Julie Mendenhall. LPA observed that the classrooms has sufficient lighting and appears to be clean and in good condition. LPA observed an ample supply of age appropriate activities, equipment, furniture, and are equipped with varied age appropriate materials and equipment. LPA did not observe any hazardous items, defects or dangerous conditions. The entrance area of the room has a fully charged fire extinguisher and centralized combination carbon monoxide/smoke detection system. An updated superintendent's certification dated 2/28/2023, indicating that Room #P-1 can be used by the child care facility beginning 6/5/2023 was received from Regional Childcare Director Vicki Coster. A fire clearance, dated 4/24/23, was received from the Contra Costa County Fire Protection Department for a clearance of 84 school-age children, ages 4.9 years to 12 years. Room #P-1 will be added to the school age license effective 5/15/23 with a capacity of 84 children. There are no deficiencies being cited. An exit interview was conducted with Director Julie Mendenhall appeal rights were provided.
