What the inspector wrote

On 06/24/2025 at approximately 11:00AM, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Kareeca \342\200\234Reeca\342\200\235 Sykes and Jamel Maiwandi met with Licensee Marlan Braggs for an Unannounced Annual/Random Inspection . Upon arrival assistant teacher Ayantek Braggs was present and shortly after licensee arrived. All adults in the home are fingerprint cleared. Licensee stated there were 11 preschool age children present during the inspection and 15 children enrolled. The home is a one-story house that consists of three (3) bedrooms, (1) bathroom, kitchen, dining area, living room, office room, converted garage, and backyard. The entrance to the day care is the front door. The home was toured for Health and Safety Inspection. The home was observed to be orderly, with heating and ventilation for safety and comfort. There are no firearms on the premises as stated by the licensee. Detergents, cleaning compounds, and other items which could pose a danger to children are stored and inaccessible to children. LPAs verified that the fire extinguisher is a 3A40BC and is fully charged. The home is equipped with both a smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector. There is a working telephone in the home. The home provides appropriate toys, learning materials and play equipment. The outdoor play area is located in the backyard with age appropriate toys and equipment, and licensee was reminded to ensure 100% visual supervision of children is conducted during outdoor play times. There is a fully stocked first aid kit. LPAs did not observe any bodies of water in or around home. ON LIMIT AREAS: one (1) bedroom (first to the right), (1) bathroom, kitchen, dining area, living room, converted garage room, and backyard. Report continues page 2 Page 2 OFF LIMITS : Bedroom 2 and 3 (at the end of the hallways to the left) ISOLATION AREA: Bedroom #1 The licensee conducts and documents fire and disaster drills twice a year with the last one conducted on 04/15/2025. The licensee\342\200\231s CPR and First Aid certificate is current and expires on 1/31/2027. Licensee was reminded that the Mandated Reporter training must renewed every two years . The Licensee was reminded of the responsibility as a mandated reporter. LPAs reviewed five children\342\200\231s files at 11:31AM and obtained a current facility roster. The licensee is in compliance with the immunization law. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPAs discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep web page at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPAs also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. During the exit interview, the Licensee Marlan Braggs, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPAs completed the RSO profile in FAS.
