What the inspector wrote

On 1/9/2025 at approximately 1:15PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jamel Maiwandi met with Licensee Evelyn Figueroa for an unannounced annual inspection. Present during today\342\200\231s inspection was the licensee, licensee\342\200\231s adult daughter, and no children. All adults present have required fingerprint clearances. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Licensee states she is currently not caring for any children. OFF-LIMIT AREAS : the entire upstairs, downstairs bedroom, laundry room, garage, and outdoor pool area located to the right of the outdoor play area. These areas are inaccessible to children in care by closed safety gates and visual supervision. ON-LIMIT AREAS: living room, family room, downstairs bathroom, kitchen and outdoor play area to the left are used as the primary areas for day-care. LPA inspected the indoor area and observed all off-limit areas to have been made inaccessible by closed and/or locked doors and visual supervision . Areas accessible to children were inspected to ensure that they are clean and orderly with ventilation and heating for safety and comfort. There are ample number of safe toys, play equipment, and materials observed for children. LPA reminded licensee that baby walkers, bouncers, jumpers and similar items are not allowed in family childcare homes. There is a working telephone in the home. LPA verified all poisons, cleaning solutions, medications, and other items that pose a danger to children are locked and inaccessible to children. The licensee was reminded that all cleaning compounds, medications, and poisons must be in a locked cabinet/drawer or placed out of reach of children. Continues on 809-C Page 2 Knives and kitchen utensils were observed to be inaccessible to children. The home is equipped with a fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher and working carbon monoxide detector. There is a fully stocked first aid kit located in the home. Licensee stated there are no firearms on the premises and one 1 pet dog. LPA inspected the outdoor area and found it to be fully fenced. Licensee stated outdoor area is currently not in use while there is inclement weather. LPA observed there to be one pool located in the outdoor area. The pool is located in an off limit area in the backyard and is inaccessible to children via a locked gate that is at least 4 feet tall. The licensee conducts and documents fire and disaster drills twice a year with the last one conducted on 10/5/2025. The licensee has current CPR and First Aid certificates that expire on 1/20/2026. The licensee has current mandated reporter training which expires on 1/18/2026. The Licensee was reminded of the responsibility as a mandated reporter. LPA reviewed 1 staff file at 1:45pm and obtained a current facility roster. The licensee is in compliance with the immunization law. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with the licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep web page at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Continues on 809-C Page 3 Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. During the exit interview, the Licensee Evelyn Figueroa confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS.
