What the inspector wrote

On 2/18/2026 at approximately 01:15PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jamel Maiwandi met with Licensee Nicole Cannada for an unannounced annual inspection. Present during today’s inspection was the licensee and six preschool age children. Licensee has required fingerprint clearances. The family childcare home days and hours of operation are Monday to Friday 7:00AM to 6:00PM. The home is a two-story house and consists of a living room, dining room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, unfenced front yard and fenced back yard. The home is a two-story house consisting of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, den (classroom 1), sunroom (classroom 2), laundry room and garage. Off-Limit Areas: entire upper level of home, garage and the backyard to the left. On-Limit Areas: living room, dining room, playroom 1, playroom 2 (adjacent to kitchen), hallway bathroom, and laundry room are used as the primary areas for day-care, backyard located to the right. LPA inspected the indoor area and observed all off-limit areas to have been made inaccessible by closed and/or locked doors and visual supervision . Areas accessible to children were inspected to ensure that they are clean and orderly with ventilation and heating for safety and comfort. There are ample number of safe toys, play equipment, and materials observed for children. LPA reminded licensee that baby walkers, bouncers, jumpers and similar items are not allowed in family childcare homes. There is a working telephone in the home. LPA verified all poisons, cleaning solutions, medications, and other items that pose a danger to children are locked and inaccessible to children. Continues on 809-C Page 2 The licensee was reminded that all cleaning compounds, medications, and poisons must be in a locked cabinet/drawer or placed out of reach of children. Knives and kitchen utensils were observed to be inaccessible to children. The home is equipped with a fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguisher and working carbon monoxide detector. There is a fully stocked first aid kit located in the home. Licensee states that there are 2 pets in the home. Licensee stated there are firearms and ammunition stored in an off limit area of the home and LPA observed they are stored separately. There is a fireplace located in the living room and is made inaccessible by an enclosed gate and licensee was reminded to ensure visual supervision is maintained at all times to ensure children do not access this area. LPA inspected the outdoor area and found it to be fully fenced and reminded licensee the areas off limits to be made inaccessible via locked gates/gates and visual supervision. Licensee stated outdoor area is currently not in use due to inclement weather. LPA observed there to be no pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water located in the outdoor area. The licensee conducts and documents fire and disaster drills twice a year with the last one conducted on 1/5/2026. The licensee has current CPR and First Aid certificates that expire in 04/2026 and current mandated reporter training that will expire on 3/28/2026. The Licensee was reminded of the responsibility as a mandated reporter. LPA reviewed 1 staff file and 6 children’s files at 1:30pm and obtained a current facility roster. The licensee is in compliance with the immunization law. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Continues on 809-C Page 3 LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with the licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep web page at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. During the exit interview, the Licensee Nicole Cannada confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS.
