What the inspector wrote

On 03/23/2023 at 11:00 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Christina Watts conducted an announced case management \342\200\223 licensee initiated inspection at Susan Bonin's small family child care home. LPA met with licensee and guided analyst on a tour of the facility. During today's inspection, there were 5 children in care (4 preschool aged children and 1 school age child) and 15 children enrolled. Family members residing in the home are licensee and licensee husband. Licensee and all adults in the home have Criminal Record Clearance. Facility is a part day facility with an Morning group and the Afternoon Group. Facility hours of operations are Monday - Friday from 8:30 AM - 3:15 PM. Licensee states she cares for children ages 3-7 years old. Licensee applied for a large family child care home with a capacity of fourteen (14) children. Licensee completed her Pediatric CPR/First Aid and Mandated Reporter certificates. Licensee has documentation maintained for Measles, Pertussis Immunization's, Influenza Opt-Out statement for the current flu season. There is a working telephone in the home. Fire clearance request was approved 03/02/2023 by San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District. This is a one story home which consists of 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, kitchen dining room, formal dining room, living room, office attached garage, backyard with an swimming pool, 2 locked sheds, outdoor furniture set, a play house, a secured deck for children, a garden, The children on limits areas: Bedroom #1, Bedroom #2, Bathroom located in bedroom #2, and backyard Areas off limits include: Master bedroom and master bathroom, Bedroom #3, hallway bathroom, Living Room, Family Room, Kitchen Dining Room, Formal Dining Room, office, attached garage, 2 locked sheds on the right hand side of backyard, and swimming pool. The LPA toured all areas used by children during this visit. *CON'T ON PAGE 2* *PAGE 2* Per licensee, there are is firearm in the home. Licensee stated there is an screened fireplace in the living room which is an off limits area. LPA observed a fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguisher, working dual smoke and carbon monoxide detector. Medicines, cleaning products, sharp objects are stored inaccessible to children. LPA reminded licensee that smoking, baby walkers, bouncers, jumpers and similar items are not allowed in family child care home. There are no stairs in the home. OUTDOOR SPACE : LPA toured the outdoor area and observed a fully fenced backyard safe for children in care. LPA observed an swimming pool that has a mesh cover and can hold the weight of an adult. LPA observed a play house for children, a secured deck as well as age appropriate toys for children to play with. LPA discussed with licensee that supervision is required when children are playing in the backyard. LPA discussed and reminded licensee day care needs to be operated within the limitations and capacity of a Large Family Child Care Home with regards to ratios and that Licensee has to be present in the day care for 80% of the operation hours. All documents have been reviewed for the increase of capacity application. The Licensee was reminded that an assistant is needed with a large family child care home license, and whenever an assistant is not present, the licensee will comply with the capacity requirements for a small family child care home. For licensing updates email childcareadvocatesprogram@dss.ca.gov and ask to be added to the email list. Effective as of 03/23/2023, change of capacity increase application has been approved. During today's inspection, there were no violation observed. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee, Susan Bonin. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 consecutive days.
