What Happened
Annual inspection with multiple safety and compliance concerns: staff not wearing required face coverings upon arrival, pool gate self-latching mechanism defective, magnetic locks on knife drawers not activated, fire drill documentation incomplete, and infant sleep monitoring documentation not being maintained.
Observations
- Upon arrival, licensee and staff were not wearing required face coverings for COVID-19 mitigation
- Kitchen drawers contain knives; magnetic locks present but NOT activated during inspection
- Fire drill documentation missing dates for July and August 2021
- Swimming pool gate does not self-latch when distance between gate and lock is less than 12 inches (defective mechanism)
- Blanket and elongated toy hanging inside two play yards (removed when pointed out)
- Staff not aware of 15-minute log requirement to document infant sleep checks
- Adult child (college student) uses residence as permanent address and visits during holidays/summer - needs fingerprinting and TB testing
- Licensee was not aware of requirement to document infant sleep checkups
