Inspector’s narrative

What the inspector wrote

On 09/16/2025, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Miguel Herrera conducted a Plan of Correction inspection. LPA met with Licensee Scott Calandra, who accompanied LPA on a tour of the facility. Present during today\342\200\231s inspection were 2 children. The purpose of today\342\200\231s inspection was to verify that the deficiency issued during the annual inspection on 09/09/2025 has been corrected. On 09/09/2025, the facility was issued a Type A citation in violation of Health and Safety Code 1596.814(a)(1)(A)(i) because the pool located in the backyard did not have a pool gate that met regulations. The pool gate was not self-latching/self-closing, which posed an immediate health, safety, or personal rights to children. Today, LPA Herrera inspected the pool fence and pool gate. The pool gate is now self-latching and self-closing. LPA Herrera tested the gate by opening the pool gate at different lengths and LPA Herrera observed that the pool gate was now in good repair. Licensee is aware of child safety around the pool and assumes all responsibility. Licensee Calandra understands that even though the backyard has been made off-limits to children in care he is expected to adhere to pool safety regulations. LPA Herrera advised Licensee Calandra to regularly maintain the pool fence/pool gate as weather, and normal wear and tear can degrade the pool fence/gate. Licensee Calandra understood the responsibility of maintaining the pool fence/gate. Licensee Calandra Plan of Correction for the above listed deficiency has been cleared during the visit and Plan of Correction letter was provided to Licensee Calandra. Per Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations, no deficiencies were observed today. Exit interview conducted with Licensee, Scott Calandra and appeal rights were provided. A notice of site visit (LIC 9213) was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
