What the inspector wrote

On 3/28/23, at 10:55am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Martha Malane conducted an unannounced annual inspection and met with Licensee, Imelda Tafoya. LPA disclosed the purpose of the inspection and was granted entry into the facility. Also present was licensee\342\200\231s husband and son. There were four (4) children, one (1) of whom was an infant . Operation hours are Monday \342\200\223 Friday 5:30am \342\200\223 8:30pm. Translation provided by Language Link operator #15299. This two-story, 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom home was inspected. The following areas are used for day-care: dining room, living room, kitchen, family room, bathroom 1 and front yard. Off limits areas include: garage, room addition next to kitchen and entire upstairs (4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms) which are made inaccessible to day care children through the use of door locks, doorknob covers and a safety gate. Stairs to the second floor are made inaccessible to day care children through the use of a safety gate. Licensee will utilize the front yard for outdoor activities. LPA and licensee discussed direct supervision during outdoor activities. The fire extinguisher, smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector met requirements. LPA observed hazardous items inaccessible to children in care. LPA informed licensee poisons shall be placed in a storage area and locked. LPA observed toys, play equipment and materials available for the children\342\200\231s use. Licensee stated there are no bodies of water on the premises and LPA did not observe any bodies of water during the inspection. Weapons and ammunition are properly stored. A review of staff records on this date indicates all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Licensee\342\200\231s First Aid and CPR certifications are valid and expire 9/24. Licensee has required immunizations, per file review. Licensee\342\200\231s Mandated Reporter Training expires 6/23/23. The facility roster is maintained and was reviewed. The last fire and disaster drills were conducted and documented 3/8/23. There is one crib or play yard for each infant who is unable to climb out of the crib or play yard. See LIC809C continuation... Incidental Medical services (IMS) policy was discussed. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. LPA discussed California Megan's Law and LPA provided: www.meganslaw.ca.gov . LPA discussed and provided Licensee with the following: child care advocates email address: childcareadvocatesprogram@dss.ca.gov. LPA informed licensee in order to sign up for Quarterly Updates and PINs through our website.
