Facility-requested visit·August 14, 2024

On 08/14/2024 at 11:00 am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Crystal Green conducted an announced Case Management inspection for an increase in the licensed capacity. LPA met with Licensee Representative Sandra Trani. This facility is located on the premises of Arlene Bitely Elementary School. This facility is currently licensed as a HeadStart/ Preschool program with a capacity of (36) children serving ages 2 to 5 years old in (2) classrooms: Classroom 1 and 2. The Licensee, Garvey School District, has requested to increase their overall licensed capacity to (60) children by adding (1) additional classroom: Classroom K2. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No children were present during today’s inspection. Per the Licensee Representative, the facility is currently closed due to summer break. LPA continued to tour the facility and measured the new indoor activity space. The total new indoor activity space measured is 1,144.59 square footage, which is sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity increase. LPA observed all indoor activity space to be complete with safe, age-appropriate furniture and equipment, including tables, chairs, cubbies, napping cots, bookshelves, and other activity supplies for the children. Drinking water is available in the classrooms via filter water fountains located next to each classroom. LPA observed all hazardous items to be inaccessible to children. There are no bodies of water or weapons on the property. Fire clearance was granted on 6/27/2024. LPA observed a total of 5 sinks and 5 toilets that will be available for children’s use. These are sufficient to accommodate the requested overall capacity of 60 children. The facility currently has (2) fully fenced playground areas: Play Yard # 1 and Play Yard #2. Fencing is made of wrought iron, which was observed to be at least four feet high. This facility has added Play Yard #2 to its outdoor activity space. The total square footage for Play Yard #2 is 9,288.00 square footages, which can accommodate the request capacity. There are sufficient outdoor age-appropriate toys and play equipment available on the playground. Drinking water is available via filter dispensers and children’s personal water bottles. LPA observed all hazardous items on the playground to be inaccessible to children. The facility representative was reminded that any changes to the facility must be reported to and approved by Community Care Licensing. No corrections are needed. Upon a final file review, a license for 60 children serving ages 2 to 5 in Classrooms 1, 2, and K2 will be granted. A notice of site visit was given to Licensee Representative Sandra Trani, and must remain posted on, or immediately adjacent to, the interior side of the main door for 30 days.
