What the inspector wrote

On 08/14/2024 at 12:45 pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Crystal Green conducted an announced Case Management inspection for an increase in the licensed capacity. LPA met with Licensee Representative Sandra Trani. This facility is located on the premises of Elridge Rice Elementary School. This facility is currently licensed as a HeadStart/ Preschool program with a capacity of (57) children serving ages 2 to 5 years old in classroom: Head Start 1. The Licensee, Garvey School District, has requested to increase their overall licensed capacity to (60) children by adding (1) additional classroom: Classroom K1. The hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No children were present during today\342\200\231s inspection. Per the Licensee Representative, the facility is currently closed due to summer break. LPA continued to tour the facility and measured the new indoor activity space. The total new indoor activity space measured is 1,006.57 square footage, which is sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity increase. LPA observed all indoor activity space to be complete with safe, age-appropriate furniture and equipment, including tables, chairs, cubbies, napping cots, bookshelves, and other activity supplies for the children. Drinking water is available in the classrooms via filter water fountains located next to each classroom. LPA observed all hazardous items to be inaccessible to children. There are no bodies of water or weapons on the property. Fire clearance was granted on 7/10/2024. LPA observed a total of 4 sinks and 4 toilets that will be available for children\342\200\231s use. These are sufficient to accommodate the requested overall capacity of children. The facility currently has one fully fenced playground area. Fencing is made of wrought iron, which was observed to be at least four feet high. LPA did not obtain measurements for existing licensed outdoor activity space. Report Continues Page 1 of 2 This facility has an approved waiver on file for shared use of the outdoor activity space with the Special Education program. The Special Education Program operates separately from the Head Start/ Preschool Program. Shade is provided via a fixed shade structure. There are sufficient outdoor age-appropriate toys and play equipment available on the playground. Drinking water is available via filter dispensers and children\342\200\231s personal water bottles. LPA observed all hazardous items on the playground to be inaccessible to children. The facility representative was reminded that any changes to the facility must be reported to and approved by Community Care Licensing. No corrections are needed. Upon a final file review, a license for 60 children serving ages 2 to 5 in Head Start 1, and Classroom K1 will be granted. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Licensee Representative, Sandra Trani. A notice of site visit was given to Licensee Representative Sandra Trani, and must remain posted on, or immediately adjacent to, the interior side of the main door for 30 days.
