What the inspector wrote

On 4/26/2023 at 1:38 p.m. Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jillinda Chandler made an announced visit to the First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica for the purpose of inspecting classroom #108 for use as a toddler option. LPA met with Dane Rold ( Assistant Director), Dee Menzies (director) and Johanna Holman (site Supervisor). LPA was granted a tour of the facility indoors and outdoors, measurements were taken of all area to ensure maximum capacity. The facility is requesting a capacity of 12 toddlers and 116 preschoolers. for a total capacity of 128, licensee is not requesting an increase in capacity. There is an approved fire clearance on file conducted by Inspector Chris Davis of the Santa Monica Fire Department. LPA observed the following: Age appropriate furniture, toys and equipment were observed in door and outdoors. Measurements for the toddler indoor activity space - 668.90 divided by 35 square feet = 19 toddlers Outdoor activity space was 510.04 divided by 75 square feet = 6 toddlers There was 1 sink and 1 toilet;1 per every 15 children = 15 toddlers, there was a changing table with in arms reach of an sink. The following corrections and requirements shall be made prior to licensure: The licensee shall request an outdoor activity square footage waiver; Title 22, Sec. 101238.2(a). Shading and benches for resting Water piping shall be made inaccessible to children in care Resilient cushioning shall be place under climbing apparatus Alerting mechanism on rear emergency exit door. Based on todays inspection the licensee shall be granted a license with a capacity of: 12 toddlers and 116 preschooler determined by the licensees request and pending corrections and waiver approval. Photos of corrections shall be provided via email, regular mail or personal delivery. An exit interview was conducted, the report was discussed and provided to Dane Rold - assistant director.
