What the inspector wrote

On 10/15/2024 Licensing Program Analyst Doris Whitmore made an announced visit to Village Children\342\200\231s Center (R.U. Methodist) for the purpose of conducting a Case Management - Licensee Initiated inspection. The licensee would like to make Fellowship Hall on limits to children in care for family events, presentations and performances. The center is located on the campus of Riviera United Methodist Church. LPA Whitmore observed 32 children being supervised and cared for appropriately by 6 fingerprint staff. On 7/24/2024 LPA'S Doris Whitmore and Lisa Clayton conducted an announced Visit. LPA'S observed the Fellowship Hall space will be used during the renovation period as an outdoor space for the children. LPA'S Measured the fellowship Hall. On 10/15/2024 LPA Whitmore observed the following corrections. The following corrections has been made to the Fellowship Hall. In the front of the stage at the bottom all of the storage cabinets have white baby latches. LPA Whitmore pulled on each cabinet to make sure that the latch was tight and secured. The safety locks that are on the cabinets are not tightly secured. The cabinets are very loose with the safety latch. LPA Whitmore was able to stick her hand in the cabinet. LP Whitmore spoke to the Director about preventing injuries to happen. There was a total of six outlets that were covered. All doors in the back of the fellowship hall are locked with a key. For the Kitchen door there was a white safety baby lock on the door. LPA Whitmore pulled on the door to make sure that the door would not open. There is a wooden structure with a lock latch at the end of each stairway to prevent children from going on the stage. Also, to make the stairs inaccessible to the children. The door that leads to the children's restroom to the left LPA Whitmore observed a gray security gate in front of the stairs. The stairs leads to the sanctuary. LPA Whitmore explained to the Director that the only correction that will need to be made is the cabinets at the bottom will need to be tight and secured. LPA Whitmore explained to the Licensee that once the cabinets are corrected, LPA Whitmore will come out to check. LPA Whitmore explained to the Director the importance of safety. The Fellowship Hall will not be able to be used until corrections are made. The report was discussed, and an exit interview was conducted with Nina Yuli Mihara.
