What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) on January 22, 2025, LPA conducted an unannounced required 1 year inspection to the above facility at 1:00pm. LPA identified self and met with Corinna Gist, Director/Licensee , who guided analyst on a tour of the facility. LPA provided Licensee with a copy of the LIC 125 Entrance Checklist to help facilitate the inspection. This property is owned by Long Beach City and is located by Long Beach Bay near the kayak rentals. See photos. This is a preschool program which consists of 1 classroom. Activity Room - inside \342\200\223 One Restroom, Outside Play yard #1 connected to activity Room, The Play Yard has removable mesh fencing during operation hours. The mesh fencing is removed when daycare closes. Facing Building: Left Side: children use the Bike Yard \342\200\223 Long Beach Hockey Rink) , Right Side: Playground Area (Public \342\200\223 City of Long Beach: Bayshore) Facility operation hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays: 9:00am to 12:00pm. For Emergency relocation: If the weather or air is bad, the children are relocated to the emergency address at Saints Episcopal Church at 346 Termino Ave, Long Beach CA 90814. The center has a permission authorization letter for the relocation. All areas identified on the Facility Sketch were inspected. Upon arrival, the Director, Corinna Gist was present with 5 children in care. The total enrolled children are currently 14 children. The maximum capacity is 17 children. The age group is 2.9 years to 5 years old. The facility was observed to be within the license capacity and limitations. The following was observed during the tour of the facility: Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. Telephone service, heating, lighting, and ventilation were evaluated. This is a part time 3-hour program and there is no napping. Children have their own cubby to store their belongings. There is one toilet and one sink available and is in good repair. General sanitation was observed. Availability of indoor and outdoor drinking water was observed in classrooms via Sparklets\342\200\231 service. Parents take turns cleaning and disinfecting toys, tables, restrooms, and surfaces. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were inaccessible to children and stored in storage room inside activity room. Smoke and Carbon monoxide detectors were observed and are operable. The fire extinguisher and carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are serviced by the Long Beach Fire Department annually. (Licensee will provide the last invoice to LPA) There is no kitchen area. Parents bring snacks for the children. Trash cans used to discard food have tight fitting lids or solid waste bags shall be discarded immediately after each meal. Outdoor playground equipment is in a safe condition, free of sharp, lose or pointed parts. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards. All areas around or under high climbing equipment, swings, slides, and similar equipment are cushioned with sand that absorbs a fall. There is adequate shade in the play yard. Availability of outdoor drinking water was observed. The licensee provides 100 percent visual supervision when the children play on the outside public playgrounds. All floors were observed to be clean and safe. All materials accessible to children were observed to be toxic-free There are no firearms stored on the premises. The Long Beach Bay and kayak rentals is next to the daycare. There is mesh netting around the daycare area during daycare hours. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Childcare Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. There is at least one person trained in CPR and Pediatric First Aid present during this inspection. Children\342\200\231s Records were reviewed. The name, address, and telephone number of child\342\200\231s authorized representative is on file. Inspection of required forms was made and documented on the LIC 857. LPA also reviewed staff records. The review of Staff records was documented on the LIC 859. Staff present did have proof of the AB 1207 Mandated Reporter Training certificate on file. Staff present did have proof against TB, measles, pertussis, and influenza. Children's roster was reviewed and is current. Sign-In and Sign-Out sheets were reviewed. Children presents were signed in. Disaster drill log was unavailable. Per licensee, last drill was conducted on 01/21/2025. First Aid supplies were observed in the kitchen cabinet. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. The licensee is exempt from the lead testing requirements. Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see PIN 22-02- CCP . When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain childcare by connecting them to childcare providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the licensee Corinna Gist. The following deficiencies listed on the attached deficiencies page are being cited in accordance with California Code of Regulations Title 22. Disaster and Mass Casualty Plan 101174(d)(2) (d) Disaster drills shall be conducted at least every six months. (2) The drills shall be documented. This documentation shall be kept in the childcare center for at least one year.
