What the inspector wrote

On 1/18/2023 Licensing Program Analysts (LPA) Jillinda Chandler made an announced visit to the Temple Akiba of Culver City, for the purpose of conducting a Case Management - Licensee Initiated Increase in capacity with a toddler option. The licensee is requesting to increase their capacity to 90 preschool children ages 2- 5 years with a toddler option of 10 children, ages 18 -24 months. The center has seven classrooms dedicated to preschool activities rooms; (see facility sketch) 1,2,3,5,6,7 will be used for preschoolers age 2- 5, room 4 will be used for the toddler option; ages 18-24 months. The following deficiencies were observed corrected: LPA did not observe toxins or chemicals accessible to children in care The mats on the toddler play yard were arranged as to prevent a tripping hazard There were gates at the top and bottom of the stairwell leading to the multipurpose room. This room is not part of the capacity square footage Outlets in the outdoor area had plug covers latch on the stairwell on the toddler yard was repaired. LPA observed a locking latch on the gate leading to the main entry LPA tested the emergency gates alarm system, alarms were sound when the door was opened The right side of the structure in play yard on the right upstairs was made inaccessible to children in care. LPA observed a bar gate of 4 feet or tall erected to make this area inaccessible to children in care. The stacks of weights and a shovel on the toddler play yard, were removed during the previous inspection. LPA's observed a sandbox in need of maintenance. Water tables were empty and covered. The changing table located outside of the blue restroom was removed All sinks, toilets and urinals were observed in operable condition. The drain pipe cover was replaced. Items belonging to the staff were removed from the toddler room refrigerator. The outdoor tables edges were covered with tape to prevent splintering Indoor measurements : 3221.05 divided by 35 square feet = 92 preschoolers 331.87 divided by 35 square feet. = 9 toddlers Outdoors measurements: 6600.90 divided by 75 square feet = 88 preschoolers ( 2 upstairs yards, yard outside of entry and the yard outside of the Keshet classroom) 1167.55 divided by 75 square feet = 15 toddlers ( directly out side of the Parparim classroom Toilets = 8 toilets and 4 urinals at 1 toilet per 15 children (2 toilets per urinal) for a total of 180 children Sinks = 13 at 1 sink per 15 children for a total of 195 children Based on today measurements and observations the facility shall be recommended for an increase of: 90 preschool children and 9 toddlers determined by the indoor measurements and pending an outdoor waiver of Title 22, section 101238(a) for the preschool's outdoor activity space.
