What the inspector wrote

On 05/21/2026 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Tyra Chavies, conducted an unannounced 3 year Annual/ Required visit at Harbor-UCLA Kindercare. LPA met with Director ,Amber Bravo, Assistant Director, Brenda Yepez and Program Specialist, Jasmine Briones and toured the facility indoors and outdoors. Days and hours of operation are Monday through Friday 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. LPA Chavies confirmed the phone number is: (310) 222-4274. LPA confirmed the email address is harbor-UCLA@Kindercare.com. This preschool license does have a toddler option. There were 9 toddlers and 47 children in care being supervised by 9 staff members. This facility has 3 preschool classrooms and one toddler classroom. Preschool classroom are called Pre-K #1, Discovery Preschool(DPS), and Preschool. All classrooms are currently being used.  Indoor furniture and equipment is in good condition, free of sharp, loose and/or pointed parts. LPA advised director that floors and ceilings must be in good repair. LPA observed cots for sleeping and bedding for cots. Teacher advised LPA that the parents will bring the child's blanket home every Friday to wash. LPA also observed age appropriate toys, books in primary care area and children's restrooms. The facility floors, bathroom and classrooms meet Title 22 Health and Safety regulations. LPA toured outdoor activity space. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition. Areas around climbing equipment have cushioning material to absorb falls. All materials and surfaces accessible to children are toxic free. Facility has one or more functioning carbon monoxide detectors/ smoke alarms. The facility does have one or more fire extinguishers which has an inspection date of May 2026 on the premises. There are no bodies of water on the premises. There are no firearms or ammunition allowed or stored on the premises. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other hazardous items are made inaccessible. All poisons are kept in a locked storage area. Per Title 22, A licensed child day care center, as defined in Section 1596.76, that is located in a building that was constructed before January 1, 2010, shall have its drinking water tested for lead contamination levels on or after January 1, 2020, but no later than January 1, 2023, and every five years after the date of the initial test. LPA Chavies received the following documents from facility: lead test results from December 2022 (which verifies sample testing under 5.5 ppb/ug L), This facility is currently in compliance. AM/ PM snacks are provided by the center and meals are provided by the family. This facility currently does not have a refrigerator for preschool and toddler options.  LPA advised the director to remind parent to provide "Cold meals only" as meals that go into a refrigerator can spoil while the children are in care. Drinking water is available both indoors, outdoors and upon request. POSTING REQUIREMENTS: License and other relevant notices are visible for public view and correctly posted on the wall (Facility Sketch, PUB 394, LIC 9148, LIC 610A). Fire and disaster drills are being conducted as scheduled every month. CHILDREN'S RECORDS: LPA Chavies reviewed 10 children's files. All files currently have all required Forms (LIC 700, 701, 995E, 627, LIC 9227) and immunization records. Toddlers Sleeping Plan were available for review. LPA advised director that the 15-minute checks are to be done until the year of 2 and must be available for LPA inspection. STAFF'S RECORDS: LPA Chavies reviewed 7 staff files. All filed currently have all required forms (  LIC 503, 508, Education, Finger print clearance and TB test results). All employees listed in LIC 859 have a valid Mandated Reporter Certificate. At least one or more persons have a valid CPR and First Aid certificate. To improve the quality and value of the new inspection process, a survey may be sent to the email address provided. The facility was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. Commencing September 1 st , 2016, prohibits a person from being employed or volunteering at a childcare facility or family day care if he or she has not been immunized against influenza, pertussis and measles. Law enacted by SB 277, beginning January 1 st , 2016, personal beliefs exemptions will no longer be an option for the vaccines that are currently required for entry into childcare or school in California. Personal beliefs exemptions already on file will remain valid until the child reaches the next immunization checkpoint. A licensee may file an appeal, in writing 15 business days from the date of receiving the penalty assessment. Per Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 3, of the California Code of Regulations, there are no deficiencies being cited. This facility is receiving Technical Violations. Please see (LIC 9102) An exit interview was conducted with Teacher,Priscilla Valenzuela. A copy of this report was read as well as LIC 9213 was given (Notice of Site Visit form.) LIC 9213 is required to be posted for 30 days.
