What the inspector wrote

On 2/26/2025 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jillinda Chandler made an announced visit to Town and Country Nursery School Inc. located at 2200 Via Rosa, Palos Verdes Estate, CA. 90274 on the premises of St. Francis Episcopal Church. The purpose of todays visit is to conduct a "Case Management - Licensee Initiated" inspection. The licensee is requesting to add 3 additional indoor activity areas to the existing preschool license. Center has a current capacity of 105 and wishes to add 30 preschool children. There is an approved fire clearance on file conducted on 11/12/2024 by inspector Judkins of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. LPA was greeted by Julie Heiden (Assistant Director) and Sharon McCandless (director) and a tour of the center was conducted. LPA measured the three added indoor activity areas (classrooms) - total measurements = 1078.01 which will accommodate the requested capacity LPA measured all outdoor activity areas - total measurements= 16268.66, which will accommodate the requested capacity Rest rooms: sinks = 165 children, and toilets = 180 children which will accommodate the requested capacity. Based on todays measurements, observations, and recommended corrections the center shall be recommended for an increase in capacity for 30 preschool children, ages 2 - entry into first grade, for a total capacity of 135. The following recommended corrections were advised during todays visit: 1. Cubbies or back pack hooks for room 3 2. Alerting devises on exit door and sliding doors in room 3 (2 for sliding doors and 2 for exit doors) 3. Alerting devise for exit door in room 1 4. Alerting plan for rod iron gates surrounding the preschool ( gate openings are 3 feet 11 inches with self latching locking mechanism). 5. Center shall provide mats or cots for children wishing to nap or rest during day care hours per Title 22, sect.101230 LPA observed a manufacturer tag on the climbing apparatus stating for age groups 2 - 12 year olds, LPA advised that one - on - one supervision be maintained at all times during use of the part of the climbing apparatus designed for older children. Also due the variation of water sources and activities on the premises and within the outdoor activity areas, final determination will be determined following departmental evaluation. An exit interview was conducted, a copy of this report was provided and discussed with representatives Julie Heiden (Asst. Director) and Sharon McCandless (Director). A Notice of Site Visit was provided and must stay posted for 30 days.
