What the inspector wrote

On 11/21/23 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Andrew Alemoh met with the facility Site Director, Faby Marton, for the purpose of conducting a Random Annual Inspection for the preschool license. A tour of the facility was conducted. Upon arrival LPA observed one classroom with a total of 4 preschool children and 2 staff present. Another classroom at the time of the inspection is not in use due to the facility collaborating with the college administration team on when to reopen the classroom for younger age groups. Director Faby will inform licensing on when the facility would like to reopen the classroom. The center operates 7:45AM - 4:00PM Monday through Friday. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness and good repair. Furniture in the classroom such as cabinets are welded to the wall making them unable to move around in the classroom. The classroom area was observed to be clean and safe. Telephone service was verified. Heating, lighting, and ventilation are adequate. There are cubbies for children to store their belongings in the classroom area. LPA observed age appropriate toys and learning materials. Appropriate napping equipment (mats) and the storage of the equipment was observed. Drinking water is available inside the classrooms in the form of water fountain, as well as children bring their own water bottles to the facility. There is a laundry room located in the classroom area that was observed to be locked. Sleeping mats were observed to be stored in the laundry room area. There is a fire extinguisher (2A10BC), smoke detector and a carbon monoxide detector on the premises all in which to be in operable condition. There is a First Aid Kit located in the kitchen area, as well as two emergency first aid bags stored in the classroom area. LPA inspected and observed one clean bathroom (2 toilets and 2 sinks). Toilets and sinks are functioning properly and are age appropriate. LPA observed soap, toilet paper and paper towels readily available. There are children cubbies in the bathroom area that store extra clothing for the day care children. Additional sinks (2) are located in each of the classrooms with a water dispenser for children to fill up their water bottles. Per director the facility has filtered water. Children are inspected for illnesses (wellness policy) as they arrive. Per director there are currently no children on medications. There is a separate area for isolation for ill children in the office area. Outdoor play equipment was inspected for health, safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness. The play area has sand and concrete as well as grass. A small corner with wood chips for water tables. The area was observed to be free of debris. There is an area for shade and rest. There is a water fountain available outside. Play area was inspected and found to be free of hazards and inaccessibility to bodies of water. Facility has bikes and other rotating equipment. There is a secondary outside area called the art patio. LPA observed the art patio area to be clean. A gate that gives access to the outside area was observed to be locked. There is a clean fully equipped kitchen (off limits) with refrigerator, freezer, stove and microwave oven. The facility provides breakfast, snacks and lunch. Allergy lists are posted in the kitchen and the classroom, site does not use nut products. LPA observed an appropriate amount of snacks. The chemicals are kept separate from the food. The facility is equip with emergency food, and water bottle jugs. Cleaning supplies were located in the kitchen cabinet with a safety latch, and a lock and key. Sign in and out sheets were reviewed. The parent board was reviewed and has all of the required forms posted. Menus are posted. Fire/earthquake drills current and last completed on 11/21/23. Roster is current. Teacher child ratios were observed and staff name recorded. Care and supervision was evaluated to determine if the basic needs of children are met and appropriate . Children's records and staff records were reviewed.
