What the inspector wrote

On August 23, 2022, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Isabel Ortega, conducted a Case Management inspection in response to information received from the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB), Division of Drinking Water (DDW). LPA Ortega met with the Director Mary Gendler, the purpose of the inspection was disclosed and entry was granted. Upon arrival no children were observed and 7 staff present today. During the inspection, LPA Ortega informed Director, the results provided from SWRCB, indicated the facility had elevated levels of lead in the water faucet in room Green (C3) the Department was notified of the Action Level Exceedance (ALE), levels are at 22.6. The SWRCB report listed facility inspected and collected sample on 8/06/2022 testing number 162218163. According to Director the sink identified as having high levels of lead was B classroom 3 located in the Green room. LPA advised Director, all water outlets tested with an ALE at the facility should be placed as out of service and children should be provided with an alternative potable water. LPA observed a water dispenser in every classroom. According to Director children are provided with drinking water from the cooler dispenser. Director advised LPA Ortega per the sample results, the sink faucet in room Green was the only sink/faucet that had a high level of lead. LPA Ortega observed that the individual sink/ faucet accessible. Director also advised LPA the sink in room green was being utilized for hand washing, washing dishes, water color activities and Only cold water is dispense. According to Director, last day sink was utilized by children was 7/22/2022 during summer camp- classes will resume August 31, 2022. The Director stated the entire sink fixture will be removed and the pipe will be replaced prior to children in care (before August 31, 2022). See LIC 809D for cited deficiencies in accordance with the California Code Regulations Title 22, Division 12. LPA Ortega informed the facility Director although the sink water in room green is not utilized for food preparation nor drinking water, there are times staff may utilize the sink for edible art projects. An exit interview was conducted, a copy of this report, appeal rights and a Notice of Site Visit was provided to Director on this day. This report shall be public record for three years. 812 for the case management
