What the inspector wrote

On 7/7/2021 at 9:08 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Angelica Ramirez conducted a case management-licensee initiated inspection for the purpose of considering the facility for an increased capacity. The facility is currently licensed for a capacity of eight and has applied for a new capacity of 14. Upon arrival, LPA Ramirez met with Penelope Mackie, licensee, who guided analyst on a tour of the facility. Also present during today's inspection is licensee's Landlord Yching H. Grace - Individual #2 and six day care children. All areas identified on the facility sketch were inspected. This is a one story home inspected as follows: Living room, dining room, kitchen, three bedrooms, one bathroom, detached garage, front yard and backyard. Family members residing at facility are licensee, Individual #1 and #2, and three biological children (of Individuals #1 and #2). The home was inspected for safety, comfort, cleanliness, telephone service, heating and ventilation, inaccessibility to poisons, detergents, cleaning compounds, medicines, and hazardous items that can pose a danger to children. The First Aid kit was observed in the hall closet. Per licensee, there are no weapons or firearms of any kind in the facility at this time. The LPA did not observe any weapons. There is no pool, spa or other bodies of water on the premises. There are age appropriate toys and equipment on the premises. The required fire extinguisher (2A 10BC), smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in operable condition. LPA observed licensee's current Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certificate which expires on 6/23/2023. Licensee has submitted a disaster plan and demonstrated control of property which remains on file in the district office as initially licensed. LPA Ramirez obtained an updated parent notification form to ensure the licensee is aware of her responsibility to notify parent if/when she is licensed at an increased capacity. Licensee uses the affidavit regarding liability insurance. Areas off limits include: Garage Rooms/Areas were made inaccessible by: Garage = lock Areas accessible include: Living room, kitchen, dining room, three bedrooms, one bathroom, and backyard. Mandated Reporter certificate expires on 10/6/2021 for licensee Mackie. LPA reminded Ms. Mackie to renew her certificate prior to the expiration date. Individual #2's Mandated Reporter certificate was completed on 7/6/2021 and expires on 7/6/2023. LPA also observed a Fire Pull Alarm which was tested during today's inspection. A fire clearance was granted by Inspector Brian Regan of the Redondo Beach Fire Department on 6/7/2021. Licensee Mackie has met the requirement in order to apply for a capacity increase, document regarding past experience in a licensed facility is on file. Ratio for a large family child care home was discussed with Ms. Mackie during today's inspection. Based on today's inspection, Ms. Mackie is approved for a capacity increase from eight (8) to 14 effective 7/8/2021. This report was read and discussed with Ms. Mackie. A copy of this report will be provided to Ms. Mackie along with a Notice of Site Visit which is to be posted in a prominent area for 30 days.
