What the inspector wrote

On 10/17/2024, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Adrian Risher and Devon Carus conducted an unannounced Annual/Random Inspection for the school age license at above mentioned facility. LPA met with Annie Howard, Site Director . LPAs toured the facility indoors and outdoors. The facility operates Monday-Friday 7am 50 8:45am, Monday,Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. and Wednesdays 1 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Facility is licensed for children from the 4.6 -8 years of age. LPAs observed 0 children in care. The Program operates within Hermosa View Elementary School campus. The facility currently operates out of the multipurpose room, Room 221, 303, 502, 601, 703 and 704. Site Director stated the children do homework and art activities in the multipurpose room. The children are on a rotation between STEAM, Homework and Sports throughout the day. Furniture and equipment are in good condition, free of sharp, loose or pointed parts. All materials and surfaces accessible to children are toxic free. The isolation area is located in the multipurpose room. There is no swimming pool or other bodies of water on the premises. There are no firearms or ammunition allowed or stored on the premises. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other hazardous items are made inaccessible. Cleaning supplies are stored in a locked cabinet in the multipurpose room. No poisons were observed during the inspection. LPAs observed first aid kits in the multipurpose room. The facility provides snacks to the children in care. LPA observed snacks that stored in a cabinet in the multi-purpose room. Menus are posted at least one week in advance. All toilets and hand-washing facilities are in safe and sanitary operating condition. The children have access to 1 bathroom inside of the multipurpose room and 3 additional bathrooms throughout the campus. Drinking water is available both indoors and outdoors. LPA observed water jugs on each cart that the staff take with them to their classrooms and in the multipurpose room. Staff use disposable cups to provide water to the children. LPAs inspected the outside play area. The surface of the outdoor activity space is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards. Facility was observed to have a smoke and carbon monoxide detector. LPA completed file reviews for children and staff which are complete. LPA observed more than one staff with current cpr and pediatric first aid certification. LPA reviewed disaster and fire drill logs which were current. No deficiencies are cited today . Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Assembly Bill (AB) 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all licensed Child Care Centers (CCCs) constructed before January 1, 2010, to test their water (used for drinking and food preparation) for lead contamination before January 1, 2023, and then every 5-years after the date of the first test. For child care center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 (PIN 21-21.1-CCP). LPA verified that the lead testing was completed in accordance to the Written Directives outlined in PIN 21-21.1-CCP . This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of “medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP .
