What the inspector wrote

On 5/7/2026 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jillinda Chandler made an unannounced visit to Big and Tiny Santa Monica located at 1444 10th Street, Santa Monica, CA. 90401 for the purpose of the measuring of additional space being added to the infant room and preschool area. Upon arrival LPA observed 7 napping toddlers being supervised by 2 staff, 19 preschool children being supervised by 2 staff. LPA also observed 3 infants being cared for by two staff members, per licensee the infants were part of the transitional drop-in program, were parents are present and children are cared for while parents utilizes the centers work stations located on the same premises, LPA observed 2 individuals in the work area the third individual had went to add monies to the parking meter and returned shortly after. The three individuals attest that the infants were their children, the licensee provided signed contracts for the individuals that where present. Todays measurements for the additional spaces were: Additional space for the preschool program (nook near kitchen area) = 58.88 square feet, added to previous measurements of 864.04 square feet for a total of 922.92 = 26 children Additional space for the infant program (connecting aisle and section near room 8)= 105.35 square feet , added to previous measurements of 190.17 square feet for a total of 295.52 = 8 infants The toddler measurements remained equal to the previous measurement of 259.33 for a total of 7 toddlers. Measurements did not include the enclosed patio, based on conditions of the current STD. 850 on file. LPA observed 4 cribs in the napping area. Applicant must ensure the napping room is made inaccessible to infant activity areas. Moveable walls or partitions, if used, shall be at least four feet high; shall be constructed of sound-absorbing material; and shall be designed to minimize the risk of injury to infants. Sleeping infants must be visibly supervised at all times. Based on todays measurements licensee will submit a new LIC. 200A (rev.1/25) requesting a updated capacity of 8 infants, 7 toddlers and 26 preschool children for a maximum total of 41 children. Recommendation for licensure of the additional capacity will be pending approval of the updated STD. 850. and the outdoor waiver. An exit interview was conducted and this report was reviewed with licensee Keltse Bilbao. A copy of the report will be emailed to licensee at keltse@bigandtiny.com
