Regarding allegation # 1 children are napping next to rat traps, allegation # 2 there are rats in the facility and allegation # 3 the facility has rat feces: LPA conducted interviews with the complainant, children and staff. Though the complainant mentioned that children sleep next to rat traps, there are rats and rat feces in the facility no disclosures were made by staff or children. LPA conducted interviews with staff # 1- 6. All staff statements corroborated that they have seen traps in off-limits areas for the children. Per S1 and S6 the offices next door has a rodent problem and the building management placed traps in the day care facility for prevention. Staff # 1-6 corroborated that they have not observed any children sleeping next to traps or any traps visible/ accessible to children in care. Additionally, Staff # 1-6 corroborated that they have not seen any rats inside or outside of the facility. Staff # 3 disclosed seeing rat feces under a sink once - Staff # 1,2,4,5 and 6 corroborated that they have not seen any rat feces. LPA conducted interviews with 5 children. Children # 1 -5 corroborated that they have not seen any rats in their school. LPA showed the children a picture of a trap - Child # 1 was aware of what it was and disclosed seeing something like that somewhere else but not in the facility. Child # 2 was not aware of what it was - but disclosed seeing it by a trash can and a cabinet in their classroom. Children # 3-5 did not disclose seeing these traps. Children # 1-5 corroborated that they have never played with a trap. During inspections, LPA observed traps in off-limit areas, hallway and kitchen areas. Traps were not accessible to children in care. LPA did not observe any children next to traps, rats and/or rat feces in the facility. Per Staff # 6 facility has been sanitized and traps have been removed. LPA conducted interviews with parents. Parent\342\200\231s statements corroborate that they do not have any concerns with the upkeep of the facility and have not seen anything dangerous in the facility. --------------------------------------------------pg. 2 of 3 ----------------------------------------------------------------- This agency has investigated the complaint alleging, children are napping next to rat traps, there are rats in the facility and the facility has rat feces Based upon the evidence as presented above, the allegation has been determined to be Unsubstantiated. A finding of Unsubstantiated means that although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove alleged violation(s) did or did not occur, therefore at this time the above allegation is unsubstantiated. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Failure to comply with posting requirements shall result in an immediate civil penalty of $100.
