What the inspector wrote

On 6/29/23 Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jeanette Estrada conducted an unannounced required 1 year inspection. LPA met with Site Director Diana Gonzalez and informed her of the purpose of the visit. There were 16 children and 2 teachers present at the time of arrival. Operating hours are Monday to Friday 6:00AM to 6:00PM. This facility serves children in first grade and above. This facility is one of three licenses on the premises. The following licenses are: 198010440 Preschool License and 198015919 Infant License. The following was observed during the tour of the facility: All documents required to be posted were observed. All areas used by children were inspected. The school age program uses one classroom (classroom 6). The floors were clean and lighting was in operable condition. There were age appropriate toys and equipment. Each child has their own cubby/storage area. Children do not nap in this program. Drinking water is available via water fountains. The facility tested for lead in water on 9/22/22. Age appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability and good repair in all restrooms. Restrooms were available in the classroom and were observed to be gender specific providing individual privacy for children. The carbon monoxide and smoke detectors in the facility were observed to be in operable condition. LPA observed a Fire extinguisher which indicated fully charged and was last serviced in March 2023. Disaster drills are documented. Last disaster drill was performed on 6/21/23. The facility provides a breakfast, AM snack, lunch and afternoon snack. Allergy lists are posted in the kitchen and children with allergies are provided with alternative meals/foods. Menus are posted monthly. Meals are prepared at this facility. The kitchen/ food preparation area is inaccessible to children in care. LPA inspected the food preparation area and observed it to be clean and in operable condition. All food was observed to be in good quality. Cleaning supplies used for the food preparation area are stored outside in a storage shed.The school age program has an outdoor area that is separate from the other components. Outdoor area was observed to have age-appropriate toys and materials for children and were free of loose, sharp, and/or pointed parts. Page 2 of report LPA observed required cushioning under climbing structure to absorb fall. Shade was observed in the outdoor area. Outdoor drinking water is provided via drinking fountains. The facility does provide transportation for this age group during the regular school year as they pick up children from school. There are no bodies of water on the premises. The isolation area is located in the main office. The facility administers prescription and non-prescription medication. Per Director, prescription medication must be accompanied by a doctor's note and non-prescription medication shall be administered per the label instructions. Medication is stored in the main office. Per Director none of the children enrolled require medication at this time. Cleaning supplies were observed to be inaccessible in the classroom. Children's sign in sheets were reviewed. LPA observed a current facility roster. Children's records reviewed contained the required forms. Staff records were reviewed. There is at least one staff present with a valid pediatric CPR/first aid certification during this visit. Staff records contained the required items. Director was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department.
