What the inspector wrote

On August 09, 2024, at 10:30 am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Elka Chavez conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection for an increase in capacity. Upon arrival, LPA met with Facility Representative Loretta Gallegos. Applicant Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District is requesting to be licensed for 34 preschoolers ages 3 to 5 in classrooms 100 and 101. Hours of operation will be Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. There were no children present during today\342\200\231s inspection. All indoor and outdoor activity space utilized for the children was inspected today. LPA informed Loretta Gallegos that staff are required to maintain direct visual supervision of the children at all times during indoor and outdoor activities. LPA continued to tour the facility and measured new additional indoor space. Total indoor activity space measured 1716.08 square feet, which is sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity of 34 children. LPA observed all indoor activity space to be complete with safe, age-appropriate furniture and equipment, including tables, chairs, cubbies, napping cots, bookshelves, and other activity supplies for the children. Drinking water is available in the classrooms via water fountain located inside of each classroom. LPA observed all hazardous items to be inaccessible to children. There are no bodies of water or weapons on the property. Fire clearance was granted on August 07, 2024. LPA observed a total of 7 sinks and 3 toilets available for children\342\200\231s use. These are sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity of 34 children. There is a waiver on file for the use of the bathrooms located outside of the classrooms dated October 14, 2008. The facility currently has a fully fenced playground area. Fencing is chain link and is at least four feet high. The total square footage for all the outdoor activity space is 14,494.28 square feet, which is sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity. There is a waiver on file for staggered outdoor play schedule for multiple programs operating on this site dated October 14, 2008. Shade is provided via trees and patio area. There are sufficient outdoor age-appropriate toys and play equipment available on the playground. There is a climbing structure on the playground for children ages 2 to 5 which is properly anchored. There is adequate cushioning in fall zones of climber provided by rubber matting. Drinking water is available via water jugs and disposable cups. LPA observed all hazardous items on the playground to be inaccessible to children. Facility representative Loretta Gallegos was reminded that any changes to the facility must be reported to and approved by Community Care Licensing. For child care center licenses issued after July 1, 2022, the licensee shall test their water for lead within 180 days of licensure pursuant to Written Directives section 101700 (PIN 21-21.1- CCP). No corrections are needed. A license for 34 children will be granted upon a final file review. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Facility representative, Loretta Gallegos. A notice of site visit was given to facility representative, Loretta Gallegos, and must remain posted on, or immediately adjacent to, the interior side of the main door for 30 days.
