What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Seung Lee conducted an unannounced random inspection today. LPA met with Licensee Shelly Chao who guided analyst on a tour of the facility. Licensee was observed with 10 children and an assistant. Adults residing in the home are the Licensee and husband. Per Licensee the operating hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am to 6pm. This large family child care home takes place in a 3 bedroom and 2 bathroom home. Care is provided in the Living room, 1 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, front yard, and part of the backyard. Off limits areas include Part of the front and backyards, kitchen, 1 bedroom, and 1 bathroom. The home was inspected for safety, comfort, cleanliness, telephone service, heating and ventilation, inaccessibility to poisons, detergents, cleaning compounds, medicines, and hazardous items that can pose a danger to children. There are age appropriate toys and napping equipment on the premises. Per applicants there are no firearms in the home. There are no pets in the home per applicant Licensee's CPR and first aide expires 07/2025. LPA observed a operational smoke and carbon monoxide detector located in the living room and a smoke detector in the kitchen. Fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen of the back unit with a receipt date of 11/24/2024. Last disaster drill was conducted on 10/30/2024 per drill log. During the inspection LPA Lee went over safe sleep practices for infants with the applicant. The following were discussed : Individuals who are 18 years of age or older living in the home must be finger print cleared prior to being in the presence of the children in care. Individuals within one month of their 18th birthday must be fingerprinted immediately. No smoking, No infant walkers, No baby bouncers, No Johnny jumpers, No exersaucers and any other item that falls into that category. LPA discussed disaster drills, posting requirements, children records requirements, mandated child abuse and injury/death reporting. A qualified Assistant must be present and actively involved in caring for children whenever nine (9) or more children are present at the facility in a large family child care home. No Deficiencies were cited during this inspection. Incidental Medical Services are not provided at this time. Licensee was informed to contact the department 30 days prior to enrolling any child with IMS needs. LPA advised LIcensee to refer to Section 101173 and 101226 for further information on regulatory requirements. Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Section 102417. LPA advised the Licensee to access forms and regulations on line at: www.ccld.ca.gov The Notice of Site Visit (LIC 9213) – must remain posted for 30 days during the hours of operation after each site visit by a licensing representative . Failure to maintain posting as required will result in a civil penalty of $100.00. Exit interview conducted with Licensee Shelly Chao. Appeal rights discussed and explained.
