What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Farhan Bashir-Tariq conducted an announced case management inspection today and met with Operations Director, Dawn Anderson (S1). Purpose of the inspection was explained and was to take measurements and review Manzanita room for any health and safety hazards. There were 32 children present today with 7 staff in four different classrooms. Facility is applying for capacity increase with the addition of this fifth room. This is a Pre-K/ Kindergarten Waldorf program, which runs M-F, 8:00 am \342\200\223 1:00 pm. Extended after care program is also offered until 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Facility provide two snacks. Children bring their own lunch. LPA and S1 toured the facility indoors and outdoors to review any health and safety hazards. Four classroom, Buttercups, Sunflower, Morning Glory and Hollyhock were visited during the inspection. This fifth room Manzanita was measured and reviewed for health and safety hazard. LPA observed that there were plenty of books, arts and furniture available in Manzanita classroom to be used by children in care. There was a combined carbon monoxide and smoke detector available in the room. Fire extinguisher of size 2A10BC or bigger was available. A working telephone was also available in this classroom. First aid kit and emergency supplies were observed in the room. This room is located separately from other four classroom. There were 2 sinks and 3 toilets available outside the classroom to be used by children. A sink for hand washing is also located in classroom. Hand washing posters were observed to be posted on bathroom door. A separate adult bathroom is available in main office building to be used by all staff. Facility was advised to lock cabinets if they plan to store any chemicals in classroom. All harmful and sharp objects should be stored inaccessible to children. Outdoor area was observed to be fully fenced all around and ready to use for this classroom. Facility currently operates with a capacity of 78. Facility applied for a capacity of 100 with the addition of this room. Based on the measurements taken today and fire inspection, facility will be approved for a capacity of 100. Fire clearance was already granted by San Rafael fire Department. Total area of the room is 910 sqft. There can be 22 children accommodated in Manzanita classroom at a time. As of today, July 15, 2021, Manzanita classroom is being approved and incorporated into licensed childcare area. Facility is approved for a total capacity of 100. This report and rights to comment and appeal were discussed with S1. This report must be available in the facility for public review.
