What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Mila Quinto and Crystal Green conducted an unannounced case management inspection of the facility for the purpose of the facility decreasing their capacity from 83 to 70 preschool children and removing rooms 106 and 114 from the existing license. LPAs met with director, Melissa Nguyen who gave LPAs a tour of the facility. They are currently licensed for 83 children in rooms 102, 103, 104, 105, 106 and 114. There were 12 children present today and 4 staff members. A review of the Facility Personnel Report Summary on this date indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse index clearances or exemptions. The facility has requested to provide care and supervision to 70 preschool children ages 2 to 5 years, Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. LPAs inspected rooms 102, 103, 104, and 105; each classroom was observed to have age-appropriate furniture and equipment. Individual storage space was available for each child within the classroom. Toys were observed to be clean and safe. There is carbon monoxide in each classroom and fire extinguishers throughout the facility. Outdoor space is completely enclosed. The outdoor activity area is supplied with age and size appropriate equipment with adequate of cushioning materials made of turf under climbing structure and slide. Page 1 of 2 Page 2 of 2 The following measurements were obtained during this inspection. Room 102 is 585.83 square feet Room 103 is 603.37 square feet Room 104 is 382.53 square feet Room 105 is: 583.82 square feet Total indoor measurement for the rooms are 2155.55 square feet divided by 35 square feet = 62 Toilets: 6 X 15= 90 children Sinks: 6 X 15 = 90 children. Outdoor Activity Space: The facility has 2 designated outdoor playgrounds which are the preschool yard and preK yard. The preschool outdoor space is 2527.19 square feet divided by 75= 34. The PreK outdoor space is 1825.59 square feet divided by 75=24 total capacity is 58. Based on measurements obtained both indoors and outdoors, the facility capacity will be reduced to 62. The licensee has requested to reduce capacity by removing 2 classrooms. The licensee requested a decrease in capacity from 83 to 70. However, based on the measurements obtained the facility capacity allows for 62 children. Due to the measurements obtained for the outdoor play area, the licensee will need to request a waiver in order to obtain the capacity of 62. LPAs consulted with the director to submit a waiver for the playground to accommodate the capacity requested. A waiver was submitted to share the connecting restroom with the infant/toddler in room 106 and preschool in room 105. The request for a capacity decrease will be submitted for final review. The facility will be notified if any additional information is required. An exit interview was conducted with the director.
