What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analysts (LPA) Patricia Rivas & Patricia Duran conducted an unannounced annual inspection and were assisted by Leslie Steinhaus, Director. A review of the Facility Personnel Report Summary on this date indicates all facility staff, or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse index clearances or exemptions A Facility Risk assessment was conducted to determine the level of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was needed for an on-site inspection. Operating hours are from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday- Friday. A walk through of the facility was conducted with Ms. Steinhaus from 9:30am through 10:30am. The facility operates in rooms N2 and N3 and P2-P8. LPA viewed 68 children and 10 Fully qualified staff. Currently room #6 is being used as a lounge. Director reports room can easily be occupied by children. LPA did view tables, chairs, books. LPA advised Director, in order to maintain capacity room needs to have the capability of being occupied by children. During inspection LPA noted toys, floors and other equipment to be clean, safe and age appropriate for children. There is a working smoke detector, carbon monoxide detector and fire extinguisher in the facility. Health screening and immunization's as required were reviewed. Beginning September 1, 2016, Health and Safety (H&S) 1597.622 states, a person shall not be employed or volunteer at a family day care home if he or she has not been immunized against influenza, pertussis, and measles. Proof of immunization against pertussis, measles for staff were reviewed and within compliance. Beginning March 31, 2018, H&S Code 1596.8662 requires all directors and employees to complete mandated reporting training, and to renew the training every two years. All staff had current mandated reporter training, Staff do not currently have current first and cpr. . However there is a Certified Nurse on the grounds directly next to Room N3. Continued on page 2 (809c) Page 2 LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children\342\200\231s, personnel, and administrative records. There are 3 playgrounds are enclosed by a fence at least four feet in height. The surface of the outdoor activity space was well maintained and free of hazards. The cushioning material , sand and rubber around the climbing equipment, slides and other similar equipment appeared to be enough to absorbs falls. Drinking water in the outdoor activity space is provided by Sport bottles with the child\342\200\231s name on it. The outdoor equipment and toys were in good repair and free of sharp edges. There are no bodies of water present at the facility. The facility grounds were safe, sanitary and in good repair. The facility representative was informed, and website given, about the California Child Care Disaster Plan has been posted to the UCSF California Childcare Health Program website: cchp.ucsf.edu/content/disaster-preparedness Also provided was information about the E-Learning Modules available at https://ccld.childcarevideos.org A copy of the California Department of Social Services Lead Information Brochure was explained and provided to the facility representative. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. (Continue on page 3) Page 3 A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Ms. Steinhaus. During today's visit no citations were issued. A technical violation was issued for First aid/ CPR requirement. However, a Registered Nurse is on the premises.
