What the inspector wrote

Page 1 of 2 Licensing Program Analysts (LPA) Mahnaz (Nancy) Malek and Romelia (Romy) Castanon conducted a case management inspection of the facility for the purpose of reviewing a waiver request for sharing the preschool playground with Toddler Option children on a different timing. The facility has been granted a temporary waiver during COVID on 11/4/2020. LPAs met with director, Kimberly Ewing who gave LPA a tour. Currently the facility is licensed for 44 preschool children in Yellow and Orange Rooms and 12 toddlers from Toddler Option in Blue Room. LPAs observed there were 29 preschool children with 5 staff on the playground and in the classrooms and 6 toddlers with 2 staff from Toddler Option Component. A review of the Facility Personnel Report Summary on this date indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse index clearances or exemptions. The facility has requested to share he preschool playground with Toddler Option children on a different scheduling. The former waiver which was granted is not valid any longer since that waiver was granted during COVID time only. The Toddler Option Program has its own outdoor space specifically for Toddler Option Component. The facility has requested to use preschool space for Toddler Option as additional outdoor space. The facility has met all the posting requirements. LPAs measured the whole available outdoor space for preschool children including Toddler Option. Total outdoor activity space measurement is as follows: Outdoor space for the toddler playground is: 1464 square feet divided by 75 =19.52 (20 children). Outdoor space for the preschool playground with big structure is: 2684 square feet divided by 75 = 35.78 (36 children). Outdoor space for the preschool playground with appropriate equipment for younger children is: 2728 square feet divided by 75 =36.37 (37 children). Continued on page 2 Page 2 of 2 The total outdoor space of preschool playground is: 4912 square feet divided by 75= 65.49 (65 children). The facility has separated the yard for younger and older children by a netting fence. The outdoor space has age appropriate toys and equipment for both younger and older children The director was reminded of the positioning of the diaper changing table and being within arm's reach of a sink in the Toddler Option Room. The diaper changing table was re-positioned during inspection. The diaper changing process was posted. LPAs reminded the director never leave the child unattended on the diapering table The facility is equipped with carbon monoxide detector. All the classrooms have age appropriate toys and equipment. The director was reminded of safe sleep regulations and logging every 15 minutes check on infants and toddlers under 24 months old. A sample of the log was given. The director was reminded that it applies to children from Toddler Option Program who are under 24 months old. Incidental Medical Services \342\200\223 IMS. For IMS information, see PIN 22-02-CCP . A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted on, or immediately adjacent to, the interior side of the main door for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the director, Kimberly Ewing. Per fire department instruction, the Orange Room holds maximum 20 children, Yellow Room 22 children, and Blue Room 19 children. The request of the updated waiver will be final reviewed and discussed with management in the Regional Office. The facility will be notified if any additional information is required. End of report
