What the inspector wrote

On Tuesday, February 22th, 2022, at 10:35am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Blake Morillas and Katy Maestas met with the Licensee, Cathi Perez, for the purpose of an unannounced Annual Required inspection. At 10:35am, 8 preschool age child was observed. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. The operating hours are 9:00am to 11:30am, Monday through Thursday. The Licensee follows the local school calendar.. At 10:45am, LPA initiated a health and safety inspection of all areas accessible to children. The Off-limits areas include the Two Bedrooms, Master Bedroom and Bathroom, Garage . Licensee acknowledged that children may never enter these off-limit areas. LPA observed a working phone, fire extinguisher, and functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. *Continued on LIC 809-C Page 1 of 3 *Continuation of LIC 809 Licensee noted that there are weapons in the home. Firearms are stored in their own safe and ammunition is separately stored according to Title 22 Regulations. Toxic and hazardous items (detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, sharp utensils, items that could pose a danger to children in care) are properly stored and inaccessible to children. There is a gas stove in the home that is not in use when the children are in care. A Fireplace Waiver is on file. There are no stairs inside the home. Safe toys and play equipment are observed. The outdoor play space is not fenced. The Licensee understands that in unfenced outdoor areas, 100% supervision of children is required. There is a spa at the home. The spa is covered and locked on all sides . At 11:24am, LPA began to review Children\342\200\231s files and other documentation. A current roster is being maintained. Licensee's fire and disaster drills are conducted and documented. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Family Child Care Homes Section 102417. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. Licensee was encouraged to visit the Department website at http://ccld.ca.gov for child care updates, current forms, legislation, and regulation information. In the areas that were evaluated, there were no deficiencies at this time . To improve the quality and value of the new inspection process, a survey will be sent to the email address provided.
