What the inspector wrote

On 2025 at 8:05 AM Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Susan Brewer arrived at the facility to conduct an annual inspection. LPA was greeted by an adult resident and granted entry to tour the facility inside and out. LPA reviewed records and observed and/or discussed the following: The facility was open and operating. The licensee Vanessa Caywood was temporarily away from the facility and joined the inspection at 8:20 AM. The licensee stated they would like to update their hours of operation on today\342\200\231s date. The licensee submitted updated LIC279A Application form, LIC279B Current children form, the LIC610A Emergency Disaster Plan and the LIC999A facility sketches, which included the 2 nd Floor. Normal days and hours of operation: Monday-Friday 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Off-limit areas include: The Entire 2 nd Floor, Bedroom 1 located downstairs, laundry room, garage, Upper-level backyard (beyond the retaining wall), south side-yard, and the Jacuzzi Spa. The inspection consisted of reviews of the following domain: Physical Plant, Care and Supervision, Records, Facility Administration, Staffing Ratio and Capacity, Personal Rights. The inspection found the facility to be in compliance in these domains. \302\267 The Licensee is present in the home and has ensured that children in care are supervised. \302\267 The facility is operating within the licensed capacity and appropriate ratios. LPA took a census of 9 children in care. \302\267 When temporarily absent from the home, the Licensee shall arrange for a substitute adult to care for and supervise children. The licensee has a full-time assistant and back up assistants when necessary. \302\267 A working telephone is present. \302\267 A fully charged fire extinguisher (2A:10BC) was observed and tagged by the fire department and needle in the green. A smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector were present and tested by the licensee during this inspection 08/07/2025. \302\267 All hazardous items are inaccessible, this includes detergents, cleaning compounds, medications and other items which could pose a danger to children. \302\267 Storage of poisons are inaccessible to children and are locked. \302\267 Stairs are barricaded in the home and in the outdoor area leading to upper-level yard. \302\267 The fireplace is properly screened. \302\267 No guns or weapons present as stated by the Licensee. Licensee Vanessa Caywood understands all guns, weapons and ammunition must be key locked separately and made inaccessible per Title 22 regulations. \302\267 Home is clean and orderly, with heating and ventilation for safety and comfort. \302\267 Clean, Safe and age-appropriate toys and equipment are present for both indoor and outdoor activities. \302\267 Outdoor play areas are fenced and/ or appropriate supervision is present. \302\267 Verification of control of property on file by mortgage statement. \302\267 Pediatric CPR and First Aid training on 06/29/2024; Card expires on 06/29/2026. \302\267 Health & Safety Certificate - completed on 09/10/2006. \302\267 Mandated reporter General: 05/07/2024; AB 1207 Child Care Expires: 05/2026 \302\267 Fire clearance: 12/20/2018 \302\267 Documentation of fire & earthquake drills to be conducted every six months: Last drill on 08/05/2025 at 8:00 AM with 4 children in care \302\267 There are no bodies of water, 08/07/2025. The Licensee Vanessa Caywood, has an above ground jacuzzi/spa which was observed to be secured with a sturdy cover and locked. The jacuzzi was empty of water. The licensee submitted photos of the jacuzzi to the department prior to the inspection. The licensee understands all bodies of water including ponds, above ground pools & spas, in-ground pools & spas, and some fountains must be properly covered or fenced per Title 22 regulations. The Department must be notified before and after installation of the above types of bodies of water. In addition, all wading pools or similar product must be emptied immediately after use and stored in an upright position. \302\267 Children\342\200\231s files are complete on today\342\200\231s date. \302\267 Staff\342\200\231s files are complete on today\342\200\231s date. \302\267 A review of staff records on 08/07/2025 indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse index clearances or exemptions. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. As a REMINDER: when your child(ren) turn 18 years of age, you MUST SUBMIT an updated LIC279 and TB Screening and have your child submit for LIVESCAN background clearance. The Licensee can submit transfer forms to associate new individuals or to disassociate someone from your facility at: Associations_Disassociations862@dss.ca.gov The Applicant was informed of their reporting requirements and is provided with the Regional Office\342\200\231s Unusual Incident Reporting email mailbox: UnusualIncidentReportsDO09@dss.ca.gov LPA Susan Brewer, discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee Vanessa Caywood and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee Vanessa Caywood, of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
