What the inspector wrote

On February 24, 2026, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jennie Tedlos conducted an unannounced required annual inspection and met with Licensee, Rita Briggs. LPA observed 5 children supervised by the Licensee. Criminal record clearances have been verified. Facility fees were reviewed and are current. Licensee stated there are no new residents in the home since licensure. Licensee hours of operation are Monday- Friday:7:30 AM-6:00 PM and does not provide overnight care. Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated. LPA conducted a health and safety inspection in all areas accessible to children in care. LPA observed the required facility license and Parent’s Rights postings. Off-Limits Areas include Bedroom #1, Master Bedroom, Garage, and Laundry Room . Off-Limits areas will remain inaccessible to children in care by way of gate, locked or closed doors. Licensee understands that to make any off-limits areas an on-limits area, they must notify licensing and the LPA must do an inspection before children are allowed in the area. There are no bodies of water at the home. The backyard area is fenced. Toys appear to be safe and in working condition. Poisonous, toxic and hazardous items are observed to be inaccessible to children in care. Cleaning agents and detergents are made inaccessible to children in care. Fire extinguisher, smoke detector, and carbon monoxide detector meet regulation. T here are weapons in the home. Firearms and ammunition are properly stored according to Title-22 Regulations. Licensee has pets and understands the responsibility of keeping children in care safe while in the presence of pets. REPORT CONTINUES ON 809-C… LPA conducted record reviews during the inspection. LPA observed a current facility roster and that fire drills are completed and documented at least once every 6 months. Children and Licensee's files were reviewed, which possessed the required documents. The Licensee has current Mandated Reporter training. Licensee understands Mandated Reporter Training must be renewed every two years. Licensee’s Mandated Reporter Training expires 04/2026. Mandated reporter training can be accessed at www.mandatedreporterca.com . Licensee has current Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification. Licensee understands Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification must be renewed every two years. Certification expiration date is 06/2026. Pediatric CPR/First Aid training program providers can be found here: https://emsa.ca.gov/childcare_provider/ . This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with the Licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and- resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed the Licensee of the importance of checking for and removing any recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment. Licensee was informed of the MyChildCarePlan.org website; a consumer education website that helps families obtain child care by connecting them to child care providers and Resource and Referral Agencies (R&Rs) throughout California. During the exit interview, the Licensee Rita Briggs, confirmed that there are no Registered Sex Offenders living in the facility, and LPA completed the RSO profile in FAS.
