What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Zirbes met with Facility Representative Sherry Rice for the purpose of conducting an unannounced Annual/Random inspection for the Preschool Center. During the inspection, LPA observe d 8 toddlers with one teacher and one aide providing supervision and 25 preschool age children with three teachers, and one aide providing supervision. An additional administrative staff member was on site. Based on LPA observation the Center was meeting the ratio and capacity regulations during this inspection. The preschool age component is operated out of five classrooms (2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and the toddler component is operated out of classroom 1. The Center has a kitchen, staff restrooms, staff office and two outdoor activity spaces. The facility currently operates Monday through Friday 7:00am -6:00pm. Indoor/Children's Area: Child care center was observed to be clean, sanitary, and in good repair; all outdoor and indoor passageways, stair ways, incline, ramps, open porches and other areas of potential hazard are kept free of obstruction; floors of all rooms have a surface that is safe and clean. Cleaning compounds were stored in each classroom on a high inaccessible shelf. LPA observed the indoor furniture/equipment was in good condition. Classrooms were free of flies, other insects and rodents. The classrooms had tables and chairs to meet the children's needs. LPA observed each classroom had a variety of art supplies, blocks, books, dramatic play, library space. Children's belongings are kept in cubbies labeled with the children's names. Trash cans for solid waste have tight fitting lids. Drinking water is readily available indoors via children's water bottles. Children are dropped off with a full water bottle and if needed the water bottled is refilled with bottled water. All materials and surfaces are toxic free, window screens in good repair and free of debris. LPA observed tested the carbon monoxide detector located in the staff office near the kitchen. An audible beep was heard therefore the carbon monoxide was in working order at this time. Report continued on page two Report continued from page one Restrooms: Each classroom has a restroom with two toilets, and two sinks. Classroom 1, 2 each have a changing table. Toilets and sinks were functioning properly, sanitary and are age appropriate. Paper towels and soap were available to the children. Meals: The families of the enrolled children provide lunch and the center provides two snacks. The kitchen areas was clean and sanitary at the time of this inspection. Napping: Cots are utilized for napping. Outdoor: LPA inspected the outdoor play space for health, safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness. The space contained two outdoor activity spaces one for the toddlers and a second for the preschool. The preschool area had a climbing structure and swings. The climbing structure was placed on sand and was anchored to the ground. The toddler play space was equipped with swings and a tiny tikes climber placed on sand. The area was fully enclosed by a fence. Zero hazards were present. Due to time constraints LPA was unable to complete the entire inspection. As a result of this inspection, zero citations were issued. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the facility representative Sherry Rice.
