What the inspector wrote

Licensing Program Analyst (LPAs), Justin Dorsey and Steven Montoya met with Site Coordinator, Alicia Flores today for the purpose of conducting an Annual/Random inspection. The school age portion of this center consists of 1 classroom, 2 outside playground areas (gated). Facility's hours are Monday through Friday, 6am to 6:30pm. Center is closed on holidays. Present today were 9 preschool children and 1 teacher. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) were discussed. LPA's observed all staff children adhere the California State mask requirements. Furniture and equipment were inspected for age appropriateness, cleanliness and good repair. Telephone service was verified as well as heating, lighting, and ventilation. Cubbies are available for children's personal items. LPA observed age appropriate toys and materials. Inside the classroom, there is a water dispenser and disposable cups for drinking water. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, medication and other items that are dangerous to children, were inspected for inaccessibility to children. Furniture and equipment are in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. Site coordinator First Aid/CPR certificate was observed and found current. There are 2 age appropriate working bathrooms with 1 toilet and 1 sink in each. LPA observed soap, toilets and paper towels readily available. Staff use a separate bathroom located next to the 2 & 3 year old bathroom. LPA observed fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in operable condition. First Aid kit is located in the kitchen. Outdoor play equipment was inspected for health, safety, cushioning material, good repair and age appropriateness. It was also inspected for hazards and inaccessibility to bodies of water. The area was observed to be free of debris. There are 2 play yards for school age children, with an open gate between them, on the right side of the facility.The closest portion has a basketball hoop, tires, and other play equipment, the further portion contains an open area covered with pebbles for cushioning material and 2 climbing play structures with rings. Shade is provided by trees and there's a bench for rest. Drinking water is provided during outside play in the form of a water pitcher and disposable cups. Kitchen is located through the preschool classroom 1. High latch is on the door for inaccessibility. LPA observed menu for the month posted on walls. Center serves school age children a PM snack (prepared on site). Chemicals and cleaning solutions are kept separate from the food in the kitchen. Cleaning solutions and disinfectants are kept locked under the sink in the kitchen. Children's allergy and medications lists located in the kitchen. LPA observed medications in a lockbox in the refrigerator. Per administrator, she administers the medication to children. LPA observed kitchen food prep and storage areas to be clean, free of litter, rubbish and rodents and/or any other vermin. Storage containers for solid waste, including moveable bins were observed to have tight-fitting covers, kept on and in good repair. Teacher/child ratio was observed to be within regulations. Fire/earthquake drills are current. A sample of children and staff files were reviewed. Mandated Reporter training for school-age teacher is current. Site Coordinator was reminded that Mandated Reporter training must be completed every two years for all staff. The parent board was reviewed and has all of the required forms posted. Sign in/sign out sheets are located in the lobby. Children are inspected for illnesses as they arrive. A review of medication policy indicated that only prescription medication is administered and only with parent's written permission. The administrator is designated to administer medications. There is a cot available for ill children to lay until parents arrive. This This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. Facility was evaluated in accordance to licensing laws and regulations to ensure the health and safety of children. No deficiencies were cited during this inspection. LIC 9213- Notice of Site Visit was given. Notice of Site Visit must remain posted for 30 consecutive days. Failure to do so will result in an immediate civil penalty assessment of $100. Exit Interview conducted and a copy of the report was read and provided to the administrator.
